NASA’s Global Hawk Drone flew over the tropical storm ‘Gaston’ last week and identified hurricane level wind speeds by dropping 84 probes called ‘dropsondes’ over a 24 hour period. Flying remotely at 60,000 feet the drone can spend over a day looking down and observing weather patterns.
