March 9th has pretty much become a national Hip Hop holiday.  It’s the anniversary of the Death of the Notorious B.I.G.  I remember where I was when I found out about it.  I was a freshman in High School at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA (just north of Atlanta).  But I will spare you the details on that.

Truth of the matter is 2pac and Biggie are the only death dates I know.  And that’s only because Hip Hop celebrates these two artists every year.  I don’t ever remember the dates of when anyone dies.  Not even family members.  I am a firm believer that you don’t remember when someone dies, you only remember when someone lived.

This year March 9th falls on a Sunday.  The same day as mine and DJ A to the L’s radio show, Diggin in the Crates.  This Sunday we are doing a very BIG tribute.  It is to celebrate the life and music of the late great Biggie Smalls.

I will be mentioning Biggie all week leading up to the show.  DJ A to the L has some surprises and specials in the stash, so this wont be just another run of the mill B.I.G. mix.

A to the L and I are blessed to have the chance to pay homage to my favorite MC of all time on such a grand scale.   We are also so touched by all of the support everyone gives DITC and all of our endeavors.  He DJs, I rap, and we do radio because we truly love Hip Hop.  To see so many people, across the globe, that are moved by what we do makes it all worth it.

Biggie isn’t when I fell in love with Hip Hop.  That was years prior.  But Biggie is what made me fall in love with the true skill of being an MC.  He was my 1st inspiration to actually put the pen to the pad.

So join me all week on social media, and then this Sunday on Blazin 102.3 as we pay tribute to the great Frank White!

Thank you, and God Bless!
