The Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara

Made by Hennel & Sons in 1912, this classic laurel wreath tiara is comprised of 631 diamonds and can also be worn as a necklace. It was given to the new Duchess of Brabant and Crown Princess, Mathilde, from the Belgian nobility to celebrate her 1999 wedding to Crown Prince Philippe. Until the couples accession to the throne, this was the only tiara at Mathilde’s disposal. 

Spain’s King Juan Carlos I, 76, announced Monday, June 2, that he would be handing over the throne to Crown Prince Felipe.

Beatrix of the Netherlands, abdicated in April 2013. She spent 33 years as the Dutch Queen before handing over power to son Willem-Alexander.

King Albert II of Belgium, abdicated the throne in July 2013. Taking his place was former Crown Prince Philippe.
