I hoped to get up to the sandy beach at the top end of Crookhaven Harbour to dry out for the night. Unfortunately for me, at this time of the year, Crookhaven is RIB and speedboat central. However there is a sheltered little creek behind Rock Island, the perfect place to spend the night in a sail & oar boat.
*UPDATE ON STAR WARS FILMING AT CROOKHAVEN - THE CREW NEED RAIN!*
So the crew are waiting on a large shipment of water tanks because they need a lot of “rain” for a scene they need to shoot. They picked Brow Head as a filming destination as they figured it would be raining a lot, however there aren’t many rain forecasts due for this part of Ireland in the foreseeable future, hence the need for water tanks.
Any ideas on what the rain scene might contain? Maybe a continuation of Rey’s vision perhaps??
To the Fastnet! The weather and tide were perfect for it. Going offshore like this in a small boat, you should always have an escape route or two planned in case the weather freshened. With the wind SE, I had two; a broad reach to Crookhaven, or close hauled to Schull. Schull was the one I took as it gave me the option of running to Crook in an emergency.
Such a beautiful lighthouse. I’m sure I’ll be back there again sometime.
