Youth, by British Folk band Daughter, is a song that encapsulates the trials and traumas of surviving adolescence - adolescent love, heartbreak, experience, failure, and expressing the pain of that adolescence. It is a mature, bare all narrative of the lives we live today. Every individual story of every single person is a unique one, but the emotions conveyed by storytellers disclose a singular relatable experience of what it is to be human. Perfect and beautiful in all their fallibility and struggle. This song tells my story, and the stories of countless others. Mine may look a different from yours, I may be unique in my own special way. But what I have learned, is that at the end of the day we are all the same. Just lost souls searching for the fire of fulfillment.
All this week I will be posting outtakes from my British Folk project. Come along to mine and Liam Hodges exhibition on British Folk, Thursday 31st July at Ditto Gallery. Photos, vidz, garms and free beer.
