I feel like 2016 has been a very Black year. Like, you have people that have always embraced their blackness embracing it more. You have people that tried to downplay their blackness embracing it. REALLY importantly, you have the black people that shit on other black people waking the fuck up and realizing they’re black, too. We’re all in this shit together and at the end of the day, their black asses are in just as much danger as the rest of us.

It’s been a time of banding together and a time of community and a time of recognition and pushing forward (I LOVE that we’re finally acknowledging colorism more publicly) and for all of the negatives that it entails, I still love the strides that have been made.

I’m mixed. Mom is white. Dad is black. And I’m scared and frustrated. Especially with the racial climate right now. I love my family but they are white. I love my family but they are privileged and refuse to acknowledge it. They don’t understand BLM and don’t want too. They think Trump is a great idea. They see nothing wrong with that. And it scares me. I look nothing like them. My sister looks nothing like them. And I’ve tried to explain. Tried to get them to understand but I’m tired. I’m tired of being told I’m racist. Tired of their pick apart understanding. I’m just tired. And I know that I have it easy. But right now, my biggest fear is I’ll be on the opposite side of a racial conflict than they are.

No Justice, No Peace (7.8.16): Some powerful shit just went down in Atlanta. Thousands came out to protest the lives stolen by police and vigilante violence, both locally and across the country. They shut down parts of both I-85 and I-75, A BIG FUCKING DEAL if you know the city (these are all 6+ lane interstates). So proud of all of my Atlanta fam tonight! Y’all have been working towards this for months, and I know you’re just getting started. #farfromover

UPDATE

PLEASE RE-BLOG

I don’t normally say that? but everyone is talking (shaming people) about how the Congressional elections are SO IMPORTANT - but nobody is educating folks on how to go about it.

What if you do your homework and find that all of your reps are terrible? what then?

Well? Run for office! Why the hell not? Because at the end of the day you - even without any political experience? you might just be overqualified.

Black Lives Matter is held to such a ridiculously high standard. If anyone who is REMOTELY associated with BLM commits an act of violence, white people use it as an excuse to smear the name of the entire movement.

Cops can murder unarmed Black people and many white folks still jump to defend the police force.

This is racism. This is white supremacy culture.

The people of Ferguson have the absolute power to remove the ENTIRE city council and the mayor, and to do so within six months. They can then put into place a city council that will appoint a city manager who will fire the Chief of Police and replace that Chief with a Chief of Police who will replace the ENTIRE FORCE.

And they have more than enough numbers to make it all happen.

They just have to organize, register, and sign the petitions for recall.

The people have all the power in this. They just don’t realize it.

Yet.
