To protest the exploratory drilling for a brown coal mine they’re doing there; he’s doing it to make the point that it’s a bad idea for us to be ripping up prime agricultural land for coal-mining purposes, especially since we want be moving away from burning coal for fuel, in particular inefficient brown coal.
The interesting bit is that he used to teach saxophone at my school, and conducted the concert band while I was in it.
