Hamilton 2/1 for SPOTY as Gerrard slips in the betting

Lewis Hamilton is the 2/1 favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year as Steven Gerrard was pushed out following Liverpool’s shocking draw against Crystal Palace. William Hill now make the Liverpool and England skipper 11/2 second favourite ahead of Chris Froome at 8/1.

“If Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy, then there is every chance that he will become favourite again but with their title bid all but over it is Hamilton, who is clear favourite,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

After his World Championship victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby is 33/1 while Welsh winger Gareth Bale is the same price.

Here’s a film I produced for BBC Sports Personality of the Year. I interviewed John Newman prior to his gig at the Cockpit in Leeds about opening the programme and the time he spent in Leeds as a student.

John was really unassuming and an artist clear about the direction of his music. He is in it for the music not the bells and whistles that go with being a successful artist. With an air of vulnerability he answered my questions like he was talking to an old time friend.
