Truly the awliya (friends) of Allah are hidden amongst his servants. Sometimes you meet people with very little knowledge, very humble jobs, and in no leadership role. But they put you to shame with their good character and you can’t help but wonder if it’s that special connection that they have with Allah that causes them to tread the earth so lightly. Oh Allah make us amongst them. ameen

Repel the thought, for if you don’t, it becomes an idea. So repel the idea; for if you don’t it will become a desire. So fight against that (desire), for if you don’t, it will become a determination and a passion. And if you don’t repel that, it will become an action. And if you don’t replace it with its opposite, it will become a constant habit. So at that point, it will be difficult for you to change it.
—  Ibn Al Qayyim
A man once came to Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) seeking his advice. He said: “I have received many proposals for my daughter. Please advise me as to whose proposal should I accept, and give my daughter in marriage to.” Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) replied: “Get her married to the man who fears Allah Ta‘ala.” He then explained the reason thus: “If he is happy with her then he will honour and appreciate her, and if (for some reason) he dislikes her, then he won’t cause her any harm.

Do not judge others with the scale of your self, rather compare your self with the scale of the saints, the friends of God, the awliya. Then you will understand their greatness and your own pettiness
