I’m not sure you can really sum up all she was to me with just “grandmother”.
One of the things we shared a bond over was my kitten Bobbles.
When Bob was born, we lived somewhere we couldn’t have any more cats, and needed to adopt them out as soon as possible. But I was already head over heels in love with her. I called my grandmother sobbing, begging her to take Bob. An hour later, my grandmother was on her way to my house with everything a kitten could ever want.
I watched them form an incredibly close bond over the years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cat love someone so much, and I think in a lot of ways, my grandmother needed Bob more than Bob needed her. When my grandmother lost her battle with Ampullary Cancer, Bob came home with me. And it turns out I also needed Bob way more than she would ever need me.
So today I decided to dedicate a special place in my heart and on my skin to celebrate my grandmother today, and the beautiful companion we shared; the little piece of her she left behind to look after me.
