Ishirō Honda, Gezora, Ganimes, Kamoebas: Kessen! [ゲゾラ・ガニメ・カメーバ 決戦! 南海の大怪獣] Space Amoeba (Yog: Monster From Space), American International Pictures, Toho Studios, Japan, 1971.

What an amazing double feature at the Cardinal Drive-In Theatre in Owensboro, KY, Spirits of the Dead and Destroy All Monsters!

Nothing like a good pairing of Poe and Godzilla!

Happy birthday to Howard Phillips Lovecraft! The images above are from the 1963 Roger Corman film The Haunted Palace starring Vincent Price. Despite the title and promotion, the film is an adaptation of Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Because Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations were such a success for American International Pictures, AIP changed the title and had Price read a passage from Poe’s poem “The Haunted Palace” as a voiceover which was tacked on the end. The film also co-starred Lon Chaney, Jr. in a role originally intended for Boris Karloff.
