Vincent Price nefariously clutches a fake, disembodied head of co-star Peter Lorre in a publicity still for Roger Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe anthology film for American International Pictures “Tales of Terror” - 1962
Happy birthday to Howard Phillips Lovecraft! The images above are from the 1963 Roger Corman film The Haunted Palace starring Vincent Price. Despite the title and promotion, the film is an adaptation of Lovecraft’s The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Because Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations were such a success for American International Pictures, AIP changed the title and had Price read a passage from Poe’s poem “The Haunted Palace” as a voiceover which was tacked on the end. The film also co-starred Lon Chaney, Jr. in a role originally intended for Boris Karloff.
