The first time Alexa Karolinski sat down with Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta of New York-based brand Eckhaus Latta, they lost track of time. The three met to discuss fashion films; Alexa wanted to make one for them. Their casual meet-and-greet turned into a harmonious, four-hour long brainstorm that generated fifteen ideas for films. None of those original ideas have been made into collection films yet, but five others have. This most recent one, titled Guest, follows in tone from their previous collaborations. Each video feels like it’s mapping new territory – all come together to impress a sense of an Eckhaus Latta universe. The world Eckhaus, Latta, and Karolinski exhibit is somewhat alien yet still always friendly, a near-future maybe. Guest frames its A/W 2014 Eckhaus Latta wearing subjects like animals in the wild but also like infomercial models, who become themselves ape-like for the juxtaposition.
