“As a title from Idea Factory, the same company that brought you the acclaimed Hakuoki series, Norn9: Var Commons is definitely worth waiting for. Norn9: Var Commons will be available in the fall, but in the meantime, I’ll give you a little sneak peek.

While on a school field trip, child prodigy Sorata Suzuhara wanders off after hearing a mysterious song and blacks out. When he comes to, he finds himself in unfamiliar place, and soon encounters a girl who informs him that he’s currently in turn of the century Japan.

In order to help him get home, Sorata follows her to a ship that she’s waiting for but when it appears it is not a wooden sailing ship, but a round aircraft that flies using technology that is beyond Sorata’s imagination. Even stranger, he discovers that the other 12 passengers - 3 young women and 9 men - are all supposedly espers with special powers, and are on some kind of journey at the behest of a multinational entity only known as The World.”

This is why I love Aksys Games. They see that there is a market for otome games. Women/girls WANT otome games. They licensed the Hakuoki games and Sweet Fuse At Your Side, and now we are getting Norn9, Amnesia Memories, and Code Realize for the Vita THIS 2015. Please support this company for bringing us otome games. We love you, Aksys Games.

Hello everyone! It’s Mina again! Aksys Games is pleased to announce our next otome visual novel game, Norn9: Var Commons. It will be a PS Vita exclusive, for both retail and digital in North America.

As a title from Idea Factory, the same company that brought you the acclaimed Hakuoki series, Norn9: Var Commons is definitely worth waiting for.

Even stranger, he discovers that the other 12 passengers — 3 young women and 9 men — are all supposedly espers with special powers, and are on some kind of journey at the behest of a multinational entity only known as The World.

What is the purpose of their journey? What is their destination? Who is The World? Before Sorata can even begin to take stock of his situation, the ship is attacked, and the mystery surrounding the ship only deepens. Delve into the story of the ship and its occupants through the point of views of each of the three girls, and unravel the mysteries trapped within.

Experience the voyage! Board a mysterious aircraft and go on a journey with twelve young men and women with special powers. While travelling to an unknown destination, you will view beautifully detailed environments.

The characters in Norn9: Var Commons come to life. No completely static images, here! Communicate with them as a part of their world and see how they react to specific situations. As the player, YOU advance the complex, diverging storyline and decide the fate of the characters. Ultimately, you will be making some of the hardest decisions. Depending on the choices you make, the story will dramatically change. If you explore all routes and complete them, the secret true ending will be revealed.

Bonus Features — Re-live your favorite moments with Gallery Mode! Also, challenge the mini game, “Norn9 Quest,” and collect points to unlock bonus illustrations and other special features.

Thanks for tuning in! Make sure to visit the Norn9: Var Commons website for more updates! See you next time!

Note: The images used are taken from an early build of the game and may differ from those used in the final product.

So I was looking at 999 on amazon and came across the following quote in the description:

“We’ve decided to call 999 an ‘Adventure’ game,” say Ben Bateman, Localization Editor, Aksys Games, “but I don’t really feel that’s entirely accurate. 999 is a game that simulates life, or at least it would if your life was about being trapped on a sinking ship and forced to complete a series of incomprehensible puzzles before your practically inevitable death. It is about relationships, and how they will ultimately kill you. There is also some blood, and an ax, so if you’ve always wanted some blood and an ax in your life, there you go. But what really brings 999 to life are the people who inhabit it. You will learn to care for them; to feel as though you are there and they are your friends, and then they will die because you made the wrong choices. Just like in real life.”

and I have not stopped laughing for like the last five minutes.

Support Otome Games in America (The Burning Question)

When a fan wondered why Aksys didn’t comment on any of the Otome game suggestions, June an employee at Aksys’ Games had this to say,

“Popularity isn’t the only determining factor when we pick games. Cost, story, content, legal issues, availability of editors, time frames, etc… There are a lot of steps and a lot of reasons behind our choices. Due to NDAs we can’t talk about anything until it’s officially confirmed; we can’t even deny. I know silence sucks, but legally we have to stay silent.”(x)

“The more (number wise, not quantity wise) people tell us what they like, the better we can gauge interest. The US market needs to tell us what they like!”(x)

Do you want Aksys to localize more Otome games? You can help by posting suggestions and answering a few questions on their forum.

What would you like to see in an Otome game?

Here’s a few questions that June asked:

  • Would you buy an otome if it was digital release only?
  • Did you buy any of the Hakuoki games or Sweet Fuse? What was your reason for buying them (initially, not after you played it)? Did the art draw you? The story? The devs/writers/artists/voice actors? Word of mouth?
  • How did you hear about the otome you’re interested in? Is it only through anime? Do you follow the Japanese otome market? Do you watch for news from the voice actors?
  • How much do you know about the otome you’re interested in? Do you read summaries, or look at PVs, or their websites?

Hakuoki: Junsouroku coming to North America.

From Gematsu:

Aksys Games is bringing Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi, released in Japan as Hakuoki: Junsouroku, to the PlayStation 3 in North America.

The Idea Factory-developed adventure game tells the tale of Chizuru, a young woman who finds herself fighting alongside the infamous Shinsengumi as competing factions war for control of Japan. But in the midst of all this chaos, will Chizuru find love?

Here’s a list of key features, courtesy of Aksys Games:

  • More Than Just One Story - This choose-your-own-adventure-style game offers players a chance to choose one of six possible love interests. Playing through the main game unlocks the “Stories of the Shinsengumi”: Several additional events that add roughly 20 hours of content.
  • A Modern-Day Tale - Playing through “Stories of the Shinsengumi” can also unlock more content, including a series of short stories written specifically for this game about the Hakuoki cast in a modern-day Japanese high school!
  • Media Gallery - Get up close and personal with your favorite scenes from main game and the “Stories of the Shinsengumi” added content!
  • Available DLC - Download Hakuoki’s massive art gallery archives and view your favorite characters in a variety of outfits. If you’re desperate for more adventures, there will be DLC side stories to scratch that itch as well!
  • Engage the Characters - Watch your favorite characters come to life as they converse with you with expressions!

A release date was not announced. View the first English screenshots at the gallery.

This is a sort of continuation from this post.

“Thanks everyone for all your responses! We’re almost at 100 different answers! I’ve been reading all of them, and it’s just about enough for me to start compiling and sharing with our licensing team. No guarantees of immediate results, but everything you say will be taken into consideration when we look at future titles. It will help us determine which games will be better received outside Japan. Please keep contributing; the more answers we get, the better!” - June (Aksys Forum Admin)

Muramasa Rebirth cat DLC coming to North America in early 2014 ⊟

Confirmed! Aksys Games issued a press release with details of the “Fishy Tales of the Nekomata” DLC, coming out for the Vita’s Muramasa Rebirth.

Tasked with taking a prized tea set to the shogun, Okoi and her brother set out on a journey to Edo. However, Okoi’s family’s chief retainer will stop at nothing to retake the tea set from Okoi. What once was a simple courier service mission just got a lot more dangerous!

Okoi uses claws to attack, and can summon her cat Miike. She uses a skill tree to upgrade her claws, instead of forging new blades. And completing her DLC unlocks a boss rush featuring the bosses from the main game.
