Adolf “Dolfo” Galland from Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG-26 emblem in the last gif) in his Messerschmitt Bf 109 in 1940 during the Battle of Britain. By the end of the year his tally of victories had reached 57.
Adolf Galland achieved 104 aerial victories in 705 missions, all on the Western front and was awarded with Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, the second most important medal of the III Reich. He was himself shot down four times. He was captured by the US Army on 14 May 1945 at an airbase in Salzburg, Austria.
He survived the war and died on 9 Feb 1996.
