Trying to be present in our complex lives and not flee from trickiness is difficult
and elusive. However, when achieved, what a calm, cool pay off. Studying the
art of honest listening (improv.) and writing down exactly what you see, hear and
feel, allows for more access to those timeless, happy moments. And it lends a
sense of humor and lightness to the awkward and the rough. Sure enough, a
nice by-product is ameliorated communication. Thus, for each class, we will
study the improvisation basics and do some exercises. We will explore and
expand our own writing practices. Sharing and snacks will close each class.
There is plenty of high drama in all our lives. Practicing improvisation and writing
help us laugh and breathe through intrigue at home, scandal at work, histrionics
at school. ( sometimes all in the same day.) You name it. And write it. And
you’ve made it!
