Late Afternoon Light, Highbanks Metro Park by mat4226 on Flickr.

When the sun is out and the leaves are green, it’s time for infrared! My new favorite place to head for a little IR inspiration is a local metro park called Highbanks. With over ten miles of hiking trails, there’s lots to explore (and maybe even get lost on!).

Today’s shot comes from one of the most accessible river banks in the park. This location goes from zero to photo meetup after work hours, so one has to be quick finding a place to setup. Long exposures also help!

Lakeview Cemetary by Mat Marrash on Infrared Film!

If it’s not already apparent, when the sun is shining and the leaves are green, I’m out there shooting as much infrared film as possible!

During the last NE OH Meetup in Bath, OH, the focus of our day excursions was Cleveland’s Flats. While many images were shot there, few of us also made it out to the massive Lakeview Cemetery. A privately funded cemetery, Lakeview is a beautiful grounds to be interred at, but at a monthly rental fee not much less than my apartment! x__x

Expect more IR from this place in the near future. ^__^

Early last month, Lauren and I made our way down south to beautiful Savannah, GA. With scorching high temps and humidity, I hauled the Sinar P2 all over this historic city to capture the beauty of their protected live oaks. After such a wonderful time there, this could easily be a yearly thing. ;D

Another quick note, this was the first time out and about with a new set of R72 filters with the IR 8x10. Saves me ~1-2 extra stops of light, well worth the money!

When the temperature and greenery both start rising, you can bet that I’ll be out exploring with infrared (IR) film!

Today’s image features one of my all-time favorite local places to shoot. Just West of Riverbend Park in Findlay, OH sits this elegant little horse trail. In early morning and late afternoon light, this trail of trees has a “glow” this is perfect for shooting. I’d been wanting to shoot this in IR for a long time, and thanks to my #87 filter, needed a perfect, near wind-less day. Thankfully, last week’s weather didn’t disappoint.

Further east into Findlay’s Rvierbend Park, there are some absolutely gorgeous scenes along the Blanchard River. Due to the steep decline of the river bank, many are hard to capture without a good tripod and a pair of waders, but for today’s image, I was able to make it work without getting wet. The more I shoot this infrared film, the more confident I grow in my ability to previsualize in IR. Also, working with the view camera + long exposures makes for some very slow, contemplative photography.
