7rr

Prior to this, I was a 7RR, and used the Feria’s Wild Ombré on the bottom half. After an over-bleaching accident while trying to freshen up the ombré, I decided to add the pink that I had in the house already (Ion Color Brilliance Brights in Magenta) after bleaching the roots that were still red.

All styling and colouring done by me. My natural colour is between level 5 and 6, light brown/dark blonde.

Hi! My name is Kara and I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I have been coloring my hair red for about 7 years now, and I have tweaked my color a million times to get this perfect shade of cool, vibrant red WITHOUT bleaching! Some of these products might not be available for your purchase, but you can always find a salon that uses these products, and I’ll also recommend some products you can get from Sally’s or any other beauty store. :)

My hair is naturally a level 4 dark brown, and I have very fine fragile hair, so I don’t use bleach unless it’s just for a couple highlights.
I use Goldwell Topchic 7RR with 30vol, process 35 minutes and then shampoo twice. I let my hair air-dry until it’s barely damp, and then apply Goldwell Elumen RR@all for 45 minutes. Shampoo twice, spray a Redken CAT treatment and leave that in for 5 minutes, rinse, and condition.

If you’re more of a DIY kind of person, or salons aren’t your thing, you can use Ion Color Brilliance 7RR Intense Red or if your hair is really dark or coarse, L’Oreal Excellence HiColor in Red Hot. Next, the semi-permanent. This is a MUST. Permanent red alone just isn’t vibrant enough! My favorite semi permanent is Manic Panic, and my preferred shade is Rock ‘n’ Roll Red. Ion also makes a pretty red semi-permanent. The best part about semi-permanent color is that it fades, so you can always try different color lines and mix shades to find your perfect color. Always remember, don’t overlap permanent color when retouching your roots. This will damage your hair and then it won’t be able to hold color!

I look forward to seeing all you beautiful redheads.

Happy coloring!
