despite being a double world champion with 14 wins & 35 podiums, Emerson never achieved the top step at the Nordschleife
in ‘72 he was on a roll, having won the previous Grand Prix, at Brands Hatch, his 3rd of the season all ready
he qualified 2nd but was no match for Jacky Ickx, who dominated the race, Emerson had to pull out due to gearbox problems
