I like being a “Jesus freak”. Yes I’m a christian. Being christian is about having a personal relationship with God. Please don’t judge me based on what other “Christians” are doing in the world or by how they’re putting a bad name on Christians. I like relying on God. I like being happy.

Sainsbury's submits new £1.3m bid for Argos owner Home Retail

Sainsbury’s has submitted a fresh takeover bid for Argos owner Home Retail Group worth £1.3m ($1.8m), after its first offer, which was submitted in November 2015, was turned down early in January 2016.

The FTSE 100 said on 2 February that it had placed a new offer, worth the equivalent of 161.3p to the retailer, which represents a 63% premium to Home Retail’s share price on 4 January and consists of a £1.1bn offer for Home Retail shares and a further £200m from the separate sale of its Homebase DIY chain.

Under the terms of the offer, Home Retail Group shareholders will own approximately 12% of the combined group , based on the current issued share capital of Sainsbury’s and Home Retail Group, Sainsbury’s said in a statement.

“The combination of Sainsbury’s and Home Retail Group is an attractive proposition for the customers and shareholders of both companies, establishing a platform for long-term value creation,” the FTSE 100 group added.

“The combination is an opportunity to bring together two of the UK’s leading retail businesses, with complementary product offers, focused on delivering quality products and services at fair prices, through an integrated, multichannel proposition.”

Saudi-led coalition says will work to reduce Yemen civilian deaths

(adds coalition spokesman, hospital attack background)
DUBAI, Jan 31 (Reuters) - A Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen regrets civilian deaths, which it says are unintentional, and is improving its targeting mechanisms with Western help, the alliance said on Sunday.
The coalition “greatly regrets civilian casualties in Yemen”, it said in a statement posted by Saudi Arabia’s mission to the United Nations on its Twitter page.
A U.N. report seen by Reuters on Wednesday said the Saudi-led coalition has targeted civilians in Yemen, documenting 119 sorties it said related to violations of international humanitarian law.
“The Arab coalition announces the formation of a high-level independent committee … to evaluate the events, identification and targeting mechanisms and developing them,” the Saudi mission’s statement said.
In March, the Saudi-led alliance began a military campaign in Yemen to prevent Houthi fighters, whom it sees as a proxy for Iran, from taking complete control of Yemen after seizing much of the north.
The Houthis deny any backing from Tehran and accuse the coalition of launching a war of aggression.
Around 6,000 people, about half of them civilians according to the United Nations, have been killed in fighting and air strikes since the intervention began.
In a news conference in Riyadh on Sunday, Saudi coalition spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri acknowledged mistakes in air operations in Yemen, but mostly defended the alliance’s record while noting that its Western allies were helping to improve their performance.
“Experts from the United States … (will) work on extensive reports and develop operating mechanisms, together with the British side,” Asseri said, adding that the advisers held a workshop in recent days at the coalition headquarters.
Asseri said the coalition was responsible for the bombing of a Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) hospital in northern Yemen on Oct. 27 which it had denied at the time, explaining to reporters that planes had targeted Houthi fighters near the facility. Grieving daughter's painful Xmas dilemma

Weighing up whether her mother would have wanted her organs donated, while trying to come to terms with her sudden death, wasn’t how Sydneysider Leigh Drew ever wished to spend Christmas.

But when the 40-year-old IT worker’s mum suffered a fatal aneurysm on December 25, 2013, she was left with the painful decision.

It was made all the harder because they never had a chance to discuss it.

“I had grown up thinking we were an opt-out country, not an opt-in country so I just assumed that this would be something that she would be happy to do because I would be happy to do it,” Ms Drew said of her choice to say “yes”.

“So I made the decision not necessarily knowing, but it does turn out that she was on the registry - phew!”

Within a day of consenting, she learned one of her mother’s kidneys had already been given to someone in need.

She later received a heartfelt thank-you card from one of the recipients explaining how they would now live to see their children grow up.

“That sort of realness, that sort of experience really does help to get through the grief of death, ” Ms Drew said.

“I feel that (my mother) would be very happy with the decision that was made.”

Organ donation rates in NSW have reached an all-time high, with 127 people donating their organs in 2015.

The previous record was 102 people in 2013.

NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner put the boost down to a shift to a national register, and the introduction of “designated requesters” trained in approaching potential donors’ families.

But with more than 1600 Australians on the transplant wait list at any given time, health authorities are encouraging more people to sign up and let their families know their wishes.

Ms Drew, now a registered organ donor, urged others to join.

“If you can, do it please,” she said.

“And also, if you are thinking about it, please tell your family because it is a very difficult time for us.

"Being asked that question and knowing what your answer would be is incredibly important.”

Russian retailer Lenta says margins picked up in 2015

* Profit margin improved in 2015 vs 2014 despite price cuts

* Supply chain investments helped reduce transportation costs

* To step up store openings in 2016

MOSCOW, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Russian budget hypermarket chain Lenta (MCX: LNTA.ME - news) said on Thursday it expected core profit margin to have improved in 2015 as supply chain improvements helped offset the impact of lower prices.

Russian consumers have seen their spending power drop since 2014 after Western sanctions over Moscow’s role in the Ukraine crisis and a plunge in oil prices hit the rouble.

Lenta CEO Jan Dunning told Reuters that lower costs and investments in the supply chain had helped to protect margins.

“We expect adjusted EBITDA margin for the full year of 2015 to improve compared to the result of 2014,” Dunning said. Lenta plans to release detailed fourth-quarter financial results on Feb. 18.

With (Other OTC: WWTH - news) the opening of new distribution centres in 2014 and 2015, Lenta reduced transportation costs by shortening routes for delivering goods. Dunning said the opening of a new centre in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg last October will make a major contribution to further cost reduction in 2016.

However, he did not provide profitability and sales growth guidance for 2016, citing a volatile consumer and macroeconomic environment.

Magnit, Russia’s biggest food retailer, also declined to give forecasts when it reported preliminary fourth-quarter earnings on Wednesday.

“Last year was distorted by forward buying…the behaviour we don’t see now,” Dunning said, referring to when consumers had stocked up on goods for fear of higher prices due to a weaker rouble.

“We still see positive like-for-like (sales) and traffic coming in… We are satisfied with the January trading until now but of course due to high comparison we’ve seen that the relative growth is less than in the fourth quarter,” he added.

Lenta reported on Thursday a 26 percent rise in fourth-quarter sales.

The company, whose full-year 2015 sales grew 30 percent to 253 billion roubles ($3.3 billion), said it planned to open 40 hypermarkets and speed up supermarket openings in 2016.

It (Other OTC: ITGL - news) opened 32 hypermarkets and eight stores last year. ($1 = 76.4400 roubles) (Reporting by Maria Kiselyova and Olga Sichkar; Editing by Keith Weir)
