never forget that in metal gear canon, revolver ocelot:

  • was at one point the richest person in the entire world
  • murdered two (2) U.S. presidents
  • betrayed 4 different factions in one game
  • had a full six pack at 70 years old
The "MUST KNOW" Labs for the NCLEX

It is common to see “normal lab values” that differ slightly from what you see in your textbook or at the hospital. Laboratory reference values often vary among reference sources and are highly dependent on the analytic methods used.

The NCLEX will not ask you to identify lab values with only slight variations from the norm because of this widely-known fact! Instead, questions on lab values will be obviously “off” or else you will be told about an abnormal lab result and then tested on your understanding of the implications of that result: can you anticipate the manifestations, the risks associated with it, or how to intervene?

Don’t focus on memorizing every reference range, but do learn the ones that are likely to show up on the NCLEX.  The following labs are specifically listed on the detailed version of the NCLEX Test Blueprint:

• pH: 7.35 - 7.45

• PO2: 80 - 100

• SaO2: 95 - 100%

• HCO3: 21 - 28 mEq/L or 21 - 28 mmol/L

• BUN: 10-20 mg/dL or 3.6-7.1 mmol/L

• Creatinine 0.5-1.2  mg/dL or 44-106 µmol/L.

• Cholesterol (total): <200 mg/dL or <5.0 mmol/L

• Glucose: 70 - 110 mg/dL (fasting) and  ≥ 200 (casual) or  <6.1 mmol/L (fasting) or ≥ 11.1 mmol/L (casual).

• Critical glucose levels are <40 and >400 mg/dL or <2.22 and >22.2 mmol/L .

• Hematocrit: 37-52% or 0.37-0.52 volume fraction

• Hemoglobin: 12-18 g/dL or 120-180 mmol/L

• HbA1C: 4-5.9% (nondiabetic), < 7% (good diabetic control), > 9% (poor diabetic control)

• Platelets: 150,000-400,000/mm³ or 150-400 x10⁹/L.

• Potassium: 3.5-5.0 mEq/L or 3.5-5 mmol/L.

• Sodium: 136-145 mEq/L or 136/145 mmol/L.

• WBC: 5,000-10,000/mm³ or 5-10 x10⁹/L.

• Critical WBC: <2,000 or >40,000/mm³ or <2 or >40x10⁹/L.

• PT: 11-12.5 seconds (normal) or  ≥1.5-2 x control (with anticoagulant therapy)

• aPTT: 30-40 seconds (normal) or  ≥1.5-2.5 x control (with anticoagulant therapy)

• INR: 0.8 - 1.1 (normal) or 2 - 3 (for A - fib) or  3 - 4.5 (for prosthetic valves)

NCLEX Mastery provides lab reference ranges from Mosby’s, 5th Edition (2013) and Mosby’s Canadian (2012). In a few instances, SI ranges have been sourced from Stedman’s Online or conversions made from Mosby’s conventional values, calculated using the AMA Manual of Style SI Conversion Calculator.

In your opinion, what is the weakest redesign of a kaiju with multiple incarnations of the Godzilla series? Which is the best?

Oof, that is a difficult question.
I don’t personally think any designs are outright BAD in the Godzilla series. They’re all made by competent artists and professionals. A few may not be as solid as their earlier concept art (lookin’ at you, Orga and Dagarha), but it’s also dependent on the film itself and what the film requires.
For example, King Ghidorah has a great original design for the period it was made in, but that classic design feels out-of-place in our harder-edged, modern films. The Heisei Ghidorah was made to look a bit less mythical and a bit more animalistic, leaning towards western dragons. Not a bad design, IMO.
Grand King Ghidorah is impressive to look at but lacks mobility and proper framing to make him truly intimidating.
Lots of folks like to shit on GMK Ghidorah, but this is almost universally because of the made-up version of Ghidorah they cobbled together in their heads not being properly served (newsflash: Ghidorah is not a “villain” in the way that the Joker is. At best he’s a chaotic plot device of mass destruction). It works perfectly as a noble-draconic-savior Ghidorah.

MechaGodzilla is a bit more cut and dry. The 70′s MG is a beautifully outdated and yet wonderfully sinister monolith of silver death. He is an war machine of opulence and a dick-waving militarized monstrosity. The oversized bolts and rivets wouldn’t fit in a modern-set film but they add to the dated charm of the character.
MG ‘93 is a textbook example of updating a character in the wrong time and wrong direction. It’s not a BAD design, it just lacks personality. It’s a big boring silver dildo of a robot, in a film that’s already confused about how we’re supposed to feel emotionally between the robot, the humans, and the monsters. MechaG is neither villain nor hero, but not in a competently crafted story about moral ambiguity like Princess Mononoke. There could have been a great theme about man’s hubris reflected in the more Gunhed-inspired designs from the film’s pre-production: a MechaGodzilla literally bristling with guns and missiles. Instead we got…just an ok robot.
Kiryu isn’t my favorite (that would be MG’75) but it’s a lovely design. Sleek but not too sleek, with lots of functionality and well-thought-out. I appreciated the amount of work that went in to creating a Mechagodzilla that could be both hero AND villain, and the design reflects that with little more than an eye color change.

Cardioversion vs Defibrillation

Cardioversion is a method to restore an abnormal heart rhythm back to normal. Defibrillation is a medical technique used to counter the onset of ventricular fibrillation, (VF) a common cause of cardiac arrest, and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, which sometimes precedes ventricular fibrillation but can be just as dangerous on its own.

MONA: Immediate Treatment of MI

Remember that MONA does not represent order in which you should administer these treatments. It is a mnemonic to help you remember the components of MI treatment, not the prioritization of them.

External image

3 Areas of Damage After MI

A heart attack occurs when blood flow to a part of your heart is blocked for a long enough time that part of the heart muscle is damaged or dies. The medical term for this is myocardial infarction.

Blood Flow Through The Cardiac Valves

Blood flows through the Tricuspid valve, then to the Pulmonic Valve, down the Mitral valve then to the Aortic valve.

Cardiac Output

Cardiac output is equal to the heart rate (beats of the heart) multiplied by stroke volume (amount of blood pumped each heart beat).

Treating Congestive Heart Failure

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart is no longer able to pump out enough oxygen-rich blood. This causes symptoms to occur throughout the body.

Pulmonary Artery Catheter

A pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) is a long, thin tube with a balloon tip on the end that helps it to move smoothly through the blood vessels and into the right chamber of the heart.

Osteoporosis, which literally means porous bone, is a disease in which the density and quality of bone are reduced. As bones become more porous and fragile, the risk of fracture is greatly increased. The loss of bone occurs silently and progressively. Often there are no symptoms until the first fracture occurs.

Hip Fracture

Hip fractures are cracks or breaks in the top of the thigh bone (femur) close to the hip joint.

Appendicitis is a painful swelling of the appendix, a finger-like pouch connected to the large intestine.

Peritonitis is an inflammation (irritation) of the peritoneum, the thin tissue that lines the inner wall of the abdomen and covers most of the abdominal organs.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a life-threatening problem that affects people with diabetes. It occurs when the body cannot use sugar (glucose) as a fuel source because there is no insulin or not enough insulin. Fat is used for fuel instead.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong (chronic) disease in which there is a high level of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes.

Hypoglycemia is a condition that occurs when your blood sugar (glucose) is too low. Blood sugar below 70 mg/dL is considered low. Blood sugar at or below this level can harm you

Anaphylactic Reaction

Anaphylaxis is a severe, whole-body allergic reaction to a chemical that has become an allergen. After being exposed to a substance such as bee sting venom, the person’s immune system becomes sensitized to it.

Autonomic Dysreflexia

Autonomic hyperreflexia is a reaction of the involuntary (autonomic) nervous system to too much stimulation. This reaction may include: Change in heart rate Excessive sweating High blood pressure Muscle spasms Skin color changes (paleness, redness, blue-grey skin color)

Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an inherited disorder that involves muscle weakness, which quickly gets worse. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is caused by a defective gene for dystrophin (a protein in the muscles). However, it often occurs in people without a known family history of the condition.

Dumping Syndrome

Dumping syndrome occurs when the contents of the stomach empty too quickly into the small intestine. The partially digested food draws excess fluid into the small intestine causing nausea, cramping, diarrhea, sweating, faintness, and palpitations. Dumping usually occurs after the consumption of too much simple or refined sugar in people who have had surgery to modify or remove all or part of the stomach.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome

Guillain-Barre syndrome is a serious health problem that occurs when the body’s defense (immune) system mistakenly attacks part of the nervous system. This leads to nerve inflammation that causes muscle weakness or paralysis and other symptoms.

Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder that slows the blood clotting process. People with this condition experience prolonged bleeding or oozing following an injury, surgery, or having a tooth pulled. In severe cases of hemophilia, continuous bleeding occurs after minor trauma or even in the absence of injury (spontaneous bleeding). Serious complications can result from bleeding into the joints, muscles, brain, or other internal organs. Milder forms of hemophilia do not necessarily involve spontaneous bleeding, and the condition may not become apparent until abnormal bleeding occurs following surgery or a serious injury.

Sickle Cell Anemia Crisis

Sickle cell anemia is a disease passed down through families. The red blood cells which are normally shaped like a disc take on a sickle or crescent shape. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body.

Symptoms of Leukemia

Leukemia is cancer of the white blood cells (leukocytes).

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs. The underlying cause of autoimmune diseases is not fully known.

Acromegaly is a long-term condition in which there is too much growth hormone and the body tissues get larger over time.

SIR Hernia

A hernia is a sac formed by the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum). The sac comes through a hole or weak area in the strong layer of the belly wall that surrounds the muscle. This layer is called the fascia.

Hi! I follow your Joker ask blog and I noticed an ask or two that ended up in referencing to a non-tolerance Joker has in caffeine? I was curious about this possible headcannon of yours and was wondering if one could have a little in depth explanation? You obviously don't have to, but I just get curious about other people's views and thoughts about Joker!

Absolutely!  I mean I won’t give the FULL full scoop since it has to do with Joker’s backstory and that’d take forever and a day (plus I might wanna keep it hush hush about the details until a later date).

But as for the headcanon itself I do like the common idea in some comics of hypersensitivity to the point where he feels EVERYTHING.  I’ve hinted on it before with his sense of smell, permanently dilated eyes and the fact that he has a tapetum lucidem (that thing that makes animal eyes glow in the dark), but I mean this in every sense he has as well.

Now, add that blaring hypersensitivity with someone who is ALREADY highkey alert almost 24/7, and who has physically different brain chemistry from most people (though like I said I won’t go into details of that.) I mean heck, I know actual people who can’t do caffeine because physiology is just a funny particular thing; some people don’t get the kick of energy but they get all of the jitters and headaches that would come with it.  If you add this to someone like Joker whose body just, well, kind of rejects most drugs in varying degrees, a cup of coffee ends up being a cocktail of migraines, manic frustration, pulse going a mile a minute, all the physical signs a panic attack (even if he doesn’t ‘feel’ panicked, it’s still not really that pleasant).  As for tolerance levels, anything lower than a cup of green tea is tolerable, but once you get to black tea concentrations it starts to be a bother.  A bar of dark chocolate is about 70 mg of caffeine, coffee is 95 and black tea is 47, for comparison.

But honestly, he really doesn’t need it and never felt any desire to either.

anonymous asked:

I never understood why Kojima never remade the original two Metal Gear games and instead tried to continue expanding Big Boss's plot, were there plot elements from his backstory that 4 didn't explain?

a 70s James Bond style MGS wouldn’t have worked with Solid Snake cause he wasn’t alive at the time

honestly, Kojima wrote him into a corner with:

the rapid aging of the clone children

MGS4′s ending and original intended end

so he had to go back

I went to my pediatrician and she said that I can't stop eating cheese, do you know any foods I can eat that contain the same nutrients cheese does? Please help and thabks !!

I am not quite sure why they told you that, and tbh that’s kind of a weird thing to hear from a doctor, cheese specifically?!
I am guessing they meant you need to keep consuming products that contain calcium? In that case, here’s a list of vegan calcium sources

Kale – 180mg
Bean sprouts – 320 mg
Spinach (cooked) – 250 mg
Collard greens (cooked) – 260 mg
Mustard greens (cooked) – 100 mg
Turnip greens (cooked) – 200 mg
Swiss chard (cooked) – 100 mg
Seaweed (Wakame) – 120mg
Okra – 130 mg
Broccoli – 45 mg
Fennel – 45 mg
Artichoke – 55 mg

Quinoa (cooked, 1 cup) – 80 mg

Chickpeas (cooked, 1 cup) – 80 mg
Pinto beans (cooked, 1 cup) – 75 mg
Soy beans (cooked, 1 cup) – 200 mg
Tofu (soft or firm, 4 oz) – 120 – 400mg
Tempeh (1 cup) – 150 mg
Navy beans (1 cup) – 110 mg
White beans (cooked, 1 cup) – 140 mg

Almonds (¼ cup) – 95 mg
Brazil nuts (¼ cup) – 55 mg
Hazelnuts (¼ cup) – 55 mg
Almond butter (1 tbsp) – 43 mg
Sesame seeds (1 tbsp) – 63 mg
Tahini (1 tbsp) – 65 mg

BASICALLY, if you eat enough and in abundance you won’t have to worry about calcium. I wouldn’t worry about consuming cheese or other dairy products because dairy is so acidic to our body, our body in order to restore the ph balance depletes calcium from our bones. (That’s why countries that consume most dairy have highest rates of osteoporosis)

Herb of the Week-Horse Chestnut (Buckeye)

Common names

Horse Chestnut

The tree commonly known as the horse chestnut is originally native to regions in northern India, it also grows wild in the Caucasus and in areas of northern Greece, however - the tree has been cultivated throughout Europe for a long time now. The horse chestnut also has relative species from the same genus, growing in the United States - these include the California buckeye - A. californica and Ohio buckeye tree - A. glabra. Horse chestnut seeds are toxic for humans. Herbalist in Europe use the leaves and bark of the horse chestnut tree, as well as a standardized extract of the seed, as herbal medication for various disorders.

Parts used

Seeds, leaves, bark.

Horse chestnut herbal remedies are utilized in traditional folk medicine, for the treatment of diarrhea and other disorders of the digestive system caused by infective agents. In fact, herbal teas made from the horse chestnut are traditionally used all over the world for the treatment of many different conditions, which includes disorders such as arthritis and also to treat rheumatic pains and coughs. Topical ointments are also prepared from the herb, and the tea itself is often applied directly on to the skin as a treatment for some kinds of sores and rashes affecting a person. Sunscreens manufactured in the continent of Europe often have a chemical component of the bark-called aesculin, as a vital ingredient, however, at this time, this effective phyto medicine is rarely used for any topical applications. The horse chestnut extract is often standardized and this form of the herbal remedy is considered to be an extremely valuable aid in the treatment of disorders such as varicose veins in different individuals. The presence of this extract inhibits the action of the enzyme hyaluronidase in the body and decreases the permeability of the veins and as a result venous fragility is lowered. The flow of blood in the blood vessels and the muscular tone of the veins are also beneficially improved by the horse chestnut herb. The ability of the herbal remedies made from the horse chestnut to reduce cases of eczema was observed from the results of various scientific studies - which included a randomized double-blind and placebo-controlled stage - in this topical role, the horse chestnut is a wonderful herb for the treatment of such external skin conditions. At the same time, another clinical study compared the effects of the horse chestnut extract to those induced by compression stockings and to the placebo use during a trial treatment for varicose veins in groups of patients. Edema in the lower legs was significantly reduced by both the herbal medicine and the stockings significantly when the results were compared to the placebo effect. The horse chestnut herbal extract is beneficial in treating feelings of physical tiredness and heaviness in the body, it is also very effective against all types of physical pain, and rapidly alleviates swelling in the legs, when such results are compared to the effects induced by a placebo. The anti-inflammatory effects of the horse chestnut extract have also been reported to be beneficial on patients and the horse chestnut may indeed possess very significant anti-inflammatory properties.

Dear Tumblr,

Hi guys, for the past month I have been asking for help, I am so sorry for being so annoying. If you are seeing this I am still in need of help and have not the money to keep my power on.

This also means I will not have AC running at all along with the 5 fans that are needed to help the ac circulate and cool down the house.

This also means that all the food in my refrigerator will go bad to not having the cool fridge to keep it fresh.

This means I could die of heat stroke. This means I will not be able to log on and keep you updated about things. This means I will lose the ability to use my phone due to no power to charge it. This also means I will not have the money to keep my phone on so I can keep in contact with anyone.

Again I am so sorry to keep appearing on your dash but I seriously need your help.

I am unable to work due to my disability, I have even tried going out to try and find work anyway but I am “kindly” turned down. Every time it is the same line. Please guys I seriously need your help, please help me. I’m begging you. I have tried everything to make money myself and everything I try slaps me in the face.

The total needed for bills is 320.00.

I know that is a bunch of money to ask for but I have no where else to turn to. My family has turned away from me, my Mother will not help, nor will my sister. I do not know what else to do. Please spread this around, anything helps. Please tumblr.

If you can donate my paypal information is sonicwillrule@yahoo.com or you can click the “Donate” button on my blog.

I am trying to take care of not only myself but my diabetic brother, who’s kidneys are failing and we have not the money to get him the medication he needs. We have no where to go if we lose the house and are fearful of this. We were able to extend the power bill until the 6th of August. But that does not include the cable, which means we will lose our internet.

My brother and I suffer from severe HTAD (Hyper Tension Anxiety Disorder) , Bi-Polar Disorder, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

I suffer from Hypoglycemia ( a condition that occurs when your blood sugar (glucose) is too low. Blood sugar below 70 mg/dL is considered low. Blood sugar at or below this level can harm you.), Hyperinsulinemia (a condition in which there are excess levels of insulin circulating in the blood than expected relative to the level of glucose.), Along with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Schizophrenia, SAD (Separation Anxiety Disdorder), RLS (Restless Legs Syndrom) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress  Disorder).

As much as I hate talking or even telling of my disabilities, I feel as though I must show and tell you all what I have labeled onto me and what I must live with for all my life. I am now unable to walk properly without the aid of my service dog Jean or a cane. I also have my ESAs (Emotional Support Animals) Callie baby and Bella Donna who are the sweetest cats in the world. But if we lose our home not only will we not have a place to go, but nor will my ESAs and my Service dog.

I am constantly living in fear and severe depression because of my mind racing a million miles a minute trying to take care of myself and my brother who suffers a lot of the same illnesses as myself. He cannot be left alone for long periods of time due to him prone to having panic attacks on a daily basis. We have no car to get to and from places as his car has become unsafe to drive let alone have any money for gas to start it.

I no longer know what to do, I am at my wit’s end and seriously need a miracle to happen. I pray something will happen to where we will be okay and not have to worry about when our next dinner will be or if we will have to give up eating a meal to keep the water and/or power on.

Please tumblr, Please help us. We seriously need help. Even if you just reblog, if you could get the word out I would be forever thankful.

Thank you for taking the time to read,

Holly (Admin of SpettroItalianoDiavolo)
