•You sigh deeply before placing your headphones over your ears. The best musical memoirs of Nirvana, making up for the annoying banter of conversations on the bus. Today was your yearly field trip to the Nasa exhibit downtown. And to add on to the wonderful experience, your best friend decided it was her day to stay home sick. How dare she leave you to fight the wars of refuge alone??
“Okay kids, you know the drill. I prefer everyone to buddy up and stay together! Lunch will be at zero thirteen hundred-”
The teacher was cut off by everyone else’s talking. Pushing her aside as they stampeded off the bus. You were the last one off, the teacher following suit. She took a deep breath and nudged you.
“Go have fun Y/N! There’s an entire world of space waiting to be discovered.”
Raising an eyebrow and tossing your rucksack over your shoulder, you sarcastically smiled. Doubting that walking around a three story building by yourself, with no elevators would hardly qualify as fun.
“I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.” You winked. Turning on the heel of your black converse, to hopefully get lost on purpose. Before entering the building, someone tapped you on your shoulder. Making you look up with an instinctual glare.
A dark haired boy with cream skin proceeded to speak, his lips moving but nothing coming out. You lowered your headphones for a second. “Huh?”
“I said I’m sorry but No cellphones or earplugs in the exhibit. Thankyou.” He nodded.
Great, another authority figure to put a damper on things. Without music you’d never make it through seven hours of space.
“Hello everyone!” The same guy whom reprimanded you a few seconds ago, began to speak. Wearing a faded green beanie, a black shirt and glasses to match. There was no question as to if he worked here; his dorky appearance said it all. Laced up boots and wrist bands consisting of superhero icons. This place was probably his great idea of “spare time.” By the way he ranted about the days agenda, he obviously had a lot of time on his hands!
“I’m Calum and I’ll be your teen-tour guide for the evening! I hope you’re prepared to slay some aliens and defeat evil galaxy knots WITH the special models of our solar system of course!?” Little kids who happened to be there with their families, cheered. Parents aiding in the extra boost of excitement. You rolled your eyes and mumbled ‘fuck my life.’ Calum being quick to catch on.
“Excuse me miss did you have a question?”
“No. Not all all.” You faked a smile. Waiting until he turned around to frown deeply.
“Good. Let’s begin!” He clapped. His eyes falling on yours. Instead of returning the anxious stare, you glared at him. Annoyed, hungry and ready to go home already. A part of you feeling a bit guilty for being rude. He was just doing his job- but overly excited people were irritating. Especially when they’re excited about something that holds no significance 99% of the time.
As Calum started lecturing the group about Earth and what it’ll look like in the future, your eyes wondered elsewhere. Something else striking your attention. Resting a hang on your bag and flipping through your brochure, you found exactly what you were looking at. “Nasa’s plan to build a new planet” Physically impossible, yes. Theoretically..no. And that made you really curious.
Your finger reached out to press the button on the stand. Looking up to see the model move around before your eyes. Your lips tugging upward and pupils twitching with amazement. Blue swirls coated with a hint of black engulfed your soul. The colors blending beautifully as it eventually stopped. Your hand ready to push the button all over again. But when you giggled to yourself happily and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, someone chuckled.
Your heart leaping and the heat rising to your face. Making you stiffen with embarrassment. Praying he didn’t just see you turn into a three year old moments before.
“Can I help you?” You swallowed the lump in your throat.
“Oh you’ve already helped yourself.” He licked his lips with a cocky grin. The expression behind his glasses turning from dorky to hot prick before you knew it. But that didn’t brush off the fact that you were a bitch earlier, and now he’s gonna hold this over you.
“Don’t you have a tour to go guide? Mr…Calum.” You crossed your arms. Mirroring his stance. Chuckling slightly he raised his chin.
“Well If you would have stayed with us long enough, you’d know that now is the time that I let everyone venture on their own. But you’ve already done that part..”
His words made you want to blush and eye fuck him all at once. “So are you gonna stand here and pick on me or do your job?” You challenged. Gesturing towards the busy groups of people and videos playing around you. Something new at every corner. Calum rested his arms behind his back. Shifting on his tiptoes and smirking. Licking his lips before lowering his glasses. Tilting his head to the right, stepping aside so you could walk ahead of him.
“Right this way my'lady.”
If you were to walk in space without any shoes, the skin on your feet would peel off.
Astronauts are placed into quarantine after visiting the moon.
One million earths can fit inside the sun..
Only some of the countless facts Calum had managed to explain. You knew he was passionate about his job and that made you even more fascinated with learning. The way his lips barely shifted positions but managed to reach a wide grin. His brown eyes lighting up whenever you’d ask a question or challenge his theories. Fingers flexed with stern gestures. Focused on everything space had to offer.
“The galaxy is my favorite. It’s so big and wide.” You stated. Situating on a blue bench in front of the 'Illusions’ section. Projected stars on the ceiling aiding in a cozy vibe. Calum scoffed, as you pulled out a bag of chips from your bag.
“That’s what she said.” He nudged you. You immediately killed his high. Wiping the proud look off his face with a witty comeback.
“Not to you.”
Faking a hurt expression, he held his heart and you both laughed it off. Obvious tension rising from your joke as he fixed his glasses. Pushing them up further on his nose, focusing his eyes ahead of him. You offered him some food. Hearing his stomach admit a low growl.
“Do you want one?”
He shook his head and pointed to a sign. “No. I’m technically not aloud to eat in here..”
The next thing that came out of your mouth was like word vomit, exiting faster than you could catch it. Your eyes widening as soon as you said the last word. “Well to satisfy your hunger you can eat me out instead.”
His face flushed red along with yours. Your hand lowering the bag and cupping your mouth with the other. Eyes wide as Calum chewed on the inside of his cheek in thought. Holding in laughter. Awkward silence filled by video instructors.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to say that-”
“Don’t be.” He finally made himself look at you. The lump in his throat going up then down, his eyes doing the same. Sizing up your body before staring into your embarrassed pupils. You faked a cough to drop the subject.
There was no way you’d be that girl and hook up with some random guy. Who probably already had a girlfriend?! He was way too attractive and smart not to have one. Standing up quickly, you threw your trash away. Clapping your hands together and turning around to become face to face, with an art piece. The science section. Three spaces marked 'Try me!’ Boy if only he knew that the last time you saw those words, was walking past the vibrator store in the mall. You raked a hand through your frizzy hair. Smoothing it out of your face.
“It’s a looking glass. When you stare through it, it reflects the things you want the most.” He answered. Rising to his feet and fishing his hands into his pockets. Tilting his head to the side frankly.
You rose the piece of glass up to your right eye, moving it across your face. Stopping when something was exposed to your clearly. Familiar knots threatening to twist inside of your stomach.
“You.” The statement made Calum scratch the back of his neck. His glasses still securely tucked on his face. You put the item down, playfully trailing over to the next thing. Looking up to see a projector flashing various pictures on a white screen. Calum catching on to your unspoken wonder.
“1million pixel camera op. It has the intensity to flash over any image, over your b-body. Like naked paint.” He scratched his temple. His shoulders tensing up just from the thought of your bare figure. You nodded with understand-meant and touched the screen. Scrolling down the list of options. Clicking on
“Brown amazon.” Trees being placed onto the screen. Standing in front of it, you perked up. Seeing yourself in the mirror. Colors fading In and out in shades of honey frost brown. Calum’s eyes locked on your every move. You decided to have a bit of fun from his teasing earlier. Flipping your hair subtly, turning around slowly and stopping at the side. Turning your head to face him. The image projecting the perfect contrast to your silhouette.
“How do I look?” You innocently smiled.
“Um..” Calum awkwardly fidgeted with his fingers. Nodding quickly. And shrugging again. “You look beautiful..A work of art. I-I really love the way you- it makes you look.”
“Thankyou.” You cooed. Stepping out of the light and on to the last part. A huge wall coated in wavy blue photos. An ocean turning into a storm then vise versa. Calum nervously beginning to babble on.
“Hey you know this one is my favorite! The wall is the softest yet sturdiest structure in the wall. NASA was the first branch to invent it. We haven’t perfected it yet. But it still does its’ job.” Calum began to fidget with knobs on the controls. You exhaled loudly, yet it came out as needy sound of pleasure. Calum shifting in place. His adorable nature, insanely cute.
“It feels nice! But I’m more of a cotton fabric type of girl.” You winked. Outstretching your arms to mimic the outline of angel wings. Calum kept talking about the mind blowing sound waves of something?! You lost him when you started to truly admire his tattoos. How could someone so innocent and pure look sooo good? An edgy and mysterious ora admitted from around him. Your mind wondering over the possibilities of his biceps locked around you.
“Calum?” You lowered your arms. Leaning back comfortably on the wall. He tugged at his shirt collar and looked around. -As if someone would fire him just from talking to you. You giggled. “Have you ever kissed a girl?”
He mumbled a 'Huh?’ Knowing all too well what you asked. You stepped closer. Catching his growing smirk with your own, your fingers toying with his bracelets. “You’re mom doesn’t count.” You whispered, leaning in to his ear. But he tried to breathe, coming off as a growl instead. Relaxing as he guided your hand up to the center of his chest. Laughing like you’d just said the most ridiculous thing in the world.
“I never really answered your question Y/N.” He read your name tag, the sound of it finally escaping his lips making you weak in the knees. The two of you decided to finally stop all the banter, hours of built up animosity at his highest. Closing the spaces with a slow kiss. He tilted his head and thankfully grabbed a hold of your face. Deepening it with the savoring taste of your lips. His glasses now crooked, causing you to giggle and break the contact.
“Am I that good of a kisser?” You teased, his glasses falling to the floor. He picked them up with an amused chuckle. Wiping them off before placing them back on his face. Abruptly spinning you around, hugging you close enough to nudge his nose in the crook of your neck. Your breath hitching. Feeling the grind of his rough jeans against your backside.
Calum’s warm breath ticked up then down your neck. Soft peppered kisses leading to one specific spot. He smirked, when you whimpered and nearly lost your balance. Biting down after sucking righteously, retrieving his lips with a skin popping sound.
“Shit.” You hissed. Trying to figure out how things escalated so quickly. His warmth left you. Him standing in front of you, seeming unbothered. Like he didn’t just give you a hickey or make-out with you in the middle of a museum.
“Now correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we should get you back to your class? For lunch.” Calum reminded. You huffed and pulled out your phone, glancing at the time. It was already ten minutes after one. The hours went by really fast when you were having fun. FUN. A word that was completely foreign just this morning. He held your bag for you as you started walking back downstairs together. Hip-bumping each other into things like little kids. You being pushed into a wall and Calum knocking over some girls macaroni diorama.
“Alright children, don’t be strangers! Time to get back on the bus. Find your seats quickly everybody we need to get on the road!” The teacher was wearing a Bill Nye hat she bought from the gift shop, standing by the door. Marking people off as you waited in line, careful to ensuring you’d be the last one aboard.
“Truth.” You replied as if it was a given. Holding on to the stuffed Astronaut he got you. Glancing ahead of you time from time, making sure the line moved slowly.
“I feel like if I give you my number, you’re not gonna text. But if you give me yours..it’ll either be fake or half real.” His face was completely serious. You frowned ironically.
“Has someone did that to you before?”
He nodded solemnly. Shaking your head, you took off his glasses and ran a hand through his hair. Soft and messy but perfect enough to rake your fingers over.
“I may be a bitch most of the time, but today was great. I actually had a lot of fun with you and we should do this again sometime. Honestly.”
“Okay.” The slight dimple in his chubby cheeks peaked through. You were two people away from having to leave. Rapidly finding a marker to write your number on his arm. He took the liberty of writing his under your hickey. Patting your neck and hugging you for a while. Parting with a kiss and goofy waves. When you stepped back on the bus, back to the seat where the day had started…you looked out the window again.
The teacher leaning over your seat as yip turned on your Playlist. Prepared to enter your world of music.
“Was the day as dreadful as you imagined?” She joked. Waiting for you to say something about the guy outside.
The headphones hugged your ears, all the noise of pointless conversations drowned out. The edges of your lips tugging upward. Your body sinking calmly into the chair. Calum saluting you as the bus pulled away.
Metaphorically thinking about your day, the tingling sensation of his lips on yours still apparent. The picture of his face burning in your brain.
Alright so imagine Calum getting home from a long and successful day at the studio and you’re in the kitchen making food while he heads up to your shared room to change into sweats and you hear him ruffling through things upstairs before he heads down to the kitchen with a slight scowl on his face till he sees you standing in front of the stove in only his nasa tee, which he was looking for. He just comes up to you and snuggles his face into your neck and takes in your scent while you finish up dinner and then the two of you just sit back and relax for the night as he unwinds from his busy day. You tell him about all the things you got done on your day off and just take the night to enjoy one another.
