How I shade

for anon!

I will explain each picture.

1.) start with flat color

2.) make a second layer, add fringe effect and clip the layer

For the colors, I like to use one that’s not the same hue, and I brought the color wheel clockwise a bit to get the hue I wanted. It’s still very similar, but it makes it a bit cooler. Also when I’m shading grey, I often don’t use darker grey to shade it, I like more vibrancy.

3.) This is the brush I use to slather around the color.

I’m not very specific with where I put the color, I just kind of put them precisely in folds, and then kinda go crazy, usually going straight across areas, cutting corners, and plain old scribbling.

4.) Fix as desired.

Take that brush tool and sway it around to where you’d want it to fade out, scribble around to make it a gradient upwards, etc! You will also be doing a lot of erasing and blending back inwards to get what you want. It’s all about experimenting!

ALSO GO CRAZY WITH COLORS DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING NEW!!!!
