What songs would you recommend to someone who wants to get into Daft Punk?
I’ve actually never been asked a question like this before, so I’ll try to answer it as best as I can.
In other words, well, it honestly just goes by the album and what you are in the mood for at a given time. I’ll just like..break the albums down for you by style, man.
Their first album. It is a mix of very nice tracks, mainly ones you’d hit a club for in order to appreciate the album in all it’s glory. Some tracks I’d like to point out are: ‘Da Funk’, ‘Phœnix’, and ‘Teachers’. This album also has the literal hit song ‘Around the World’ that almost everybody knows of.
This album is comprised of the soundtrack for the movie ‘Interstella 5555′ (link to full movie). It is, in my opinion, one of their best albums and my most favorite. The songs are ones that you can listen to and maybe forget about your troubles and the world for it’s duration. I can’t really point out any certain songs to listen to, since the album in itself is pure perfection.
Now this album is my third favorite. This album is more…sad, than anything else. Basically summed up as Thomas and Guy-Manuel longing to be human. This can be shown in their second movie, ‘Electroma’. It’s a classic, but also is just…weird and more heavy sounding versus Discovery or Homework for that matter. This album, I feel, is more rock based with most songs featuring a noticeable guitar and heavy drum beat to them. A couple songs I’d rec to enforce this are: ‘Human After All’, ‘The Prime Time Of Your Life’, ‘Television Rules The Nation’, ‘Technologic’ and finally ‘Emotion’.
The album that is taken from the Alive 2007 tour. It features remixes of the robotic duos songs and they are honestly really well mixed. The album, while having the crowd chanting and whatnot, has lots of good remixes in it. Some ones I’d like to point out are: ‘Robot Rock / Oh Yeah’, ‘Touch It / Technologic’, ‘Television Rules The Nation / Crescendolls’, ‘Face To Face / Short Circuit’, and ‘Aerodynamic Beats / Forget About The World’.
Their latest album. Wikipedia states it as, “The album pays tribute to the late 1970s and early 1980s era of music in the United States, particularly the sounds of said era that emerged from Los Angeles.” With that in mind, it isn’t too hard to tell why. It also features lots of orchestral instrumental bits that are just…heavenly, that it is hard to put into words. Also a few songs are highkey…haunting. Ones like ‘Instant Crush’, ‘The Game Of Love’, and ‘Within’ are the ones I’m talking about here.
This album went on to win numerous Grammys (yay for our little french bots!) and is something I’d rec listening to if you just want to vibe and have a good album to dance to. Songs you should def check out are: ‘Give Life Back To Music’, ‘Fragments Of Time’, ‘Doin’ It Right’ and ‘Lose Yourself to Dance’. All in all, I’d rec starting with whatever you are in the mood for.
So, all in all my advice to you is this: Pick the album that suits your mood. I guarantee that there is a song that fits what you are feeling or what you are looking for.
