On this day in music history: February 21, 1964 - “Not Fade Away” by The Rolling Stones is released in the UK (US release date is on March 6, 1964). Written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty, it is the third UK single and debut release in the US for the legendary British rock band. The song is a cover of The Buddy Holly & Crickets single originally released in 1957, and is a regular part of bands’ live performances at the time. The Stones’ version is recorded on January 10, 1964 at Olympic Studios in London, UK. The song is also included on the US version of their debut album. The US release of the single features the Lennon and McCartney penned “I Wanna Be Your Man” on the B-side, which is recorded by the Stones first on October 7, 1963, and released in the UK as the A-side of their second single on November 1, 1963. US 45 is also issued in a rare picture sleeve featuring the same photo used on the cover of their first US album “England’s Newest Hitmakers - The Rolling Stones” and its UK counterpart “The Rolling Stones”. “Not Fade Away” peaks at #3 on the UK singles chart, and #48 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Today’s Daily Dose of Dead is Not Fade Away coming out of St.Stephen from the 9/19/70 show at the Fillmore East on 2nd Ave (aka Bill Graham’s Way) in NYC.
Wonderfully powerful NFA at this historic venue which is now a bank. Worth checking out the site if you are in the city. There is a great lightpost with inlaid tiles of the logos/designs of several bands such as the dead and the allman brothers.
Love the interplay between garcia and weir in this version. There is also a great jam in the middle of the song (sounds a bit like jefferson airplane). Not on this track… It then goes into a china cat jam and back into NFA. Sick stuff!
The place must have been a sweaty mess. Wish the fuck I was there!
“My love is bigger than a Cadillac, I try to show you but you drive me back. Your love for me has got to be real, your gonna know just how I feel.”
“The only character to appear in the very first episode of Buffy- the unaired pilot- and the very last episode of Angel- NOT FADE AWAY- was Harmony Kendall, making her the longest serving character in the entire Buffyverse.“
In case you were ever wondering, I have brought together nine of my all-time favorite “indie romance” movies, because I am addicted to them. If you are a sucker for love and have not seen any of these movies please go watch them. A majority of them are on Netflix. Don’t forget popcorn and tissues.
