: Here’s a mastershit,
I have time to waste so… lmao. It’s so long omg but I love going
into details, I wanted to do something progressive. The beginning
sucks a lot because it’s really not interesting but I don’t care, the
five hundreds words following suck, definitely. By the way, I suck at titles too.
Friday, August 4th.
It was a beautiful day
in France. The country was totally filled with sunlight, even in
Brittany. It was sparkling brilliantly and everybody went outside.
Outings with friends, having a drink at an outside table with them
and talking about anything. Strutting in town and planting oneself on
the grass in a park. Having time of their lives. In short, it was a
real summer day.
That’s precisely what
y/n had done. She had prepared herself to go outside with her best
friend that she has met at Uni, y/bf/n.
The two young girls had
been sitting at a table outside a café, the one they’re used to go
since they were on vacation.
On this day in music history: April 9, 1977 - “Dancing Queen” by ABBA hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1 week. Written by Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson, it is the biggest chart single in the US for the Swedish pop quartet. Originally titled “Boogaloo” in its original demo form, Andersson and Ulvaeus are inspired to write the song after hearing George McCrae’s “Rock Your Baby”. The basic track for “Dancing Queen” is recorded over two days, on August 4 - 5, 1975 at Glen Studio in Stocksund, Sweden. Lead vocalists Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad add their vocals in September of 1975, with further overdubs and mixing completed over the next three months. The song is performed publicly on Swedish TV for the first time on June 18, 1976 before an audience that includes King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and his future queen Silvia Sommerlath. Issued as the second single from their third studio album “Arrival”, “Dancing Queen” is released as a single in the US on November 12, 1976. Before the single is released domestically, remixer and producer Tom Moulton is approached by Atlantic Records to create an extended remix of the track for play in discos. Moulton ends up declining the offer, feeling that the original mix is already perfect, so the label issues promotional 12" copies to DJ’s with the original version pressed on both sides. Entering the Hot 100 at #86 on December 11, 1976, it takes a slow and steady climb up the chart, reaching the top seventeen weeks later. The single is a huge worldwide hit, also topping the charts in an additional thirteen countries around the world. Regarded as one the greatest pop singles of all time, and one of the quintessential songs of the Disco Era, “Dancing Queen” has only continued to grow in popularity and influence. “Dancing Queen” is certified Gold in the US by the RIAA.
Belka (Белка, literally, “Squirrel” or, alternately, “Whitey”) and Strelka (Стрелка, “Arrow”), alongside a grey rabbit, 42 mice, 2 rats, flies and several plants and fungi, became the first Earth-born creatures to go into orbit and return alive aboard Korabl-Sputnik 2 (Sputnik 5) on 19 August 1960, spending a day in space.
Strelka went on to have six puppies with a male dog named Pushok who participated in many ground-based space experiments, but never made it into space. One of the pups was named Pushinka (Пушинка, “Fluffy”) and was presented to President John F. Kennedy’s daughter Caroline by Nikita Khrushchev in 1961. A Cold War romance bloomed between Pushinka and a Kennedy dog named Charlie resulting in the birth of 4 pups that JFK referred to jokingly as pupniks. Two of their pups, Butterfly and Streaker were given away to children in the Midwest. The other two puppies, White Tips and Blackie, stayed at the Kennedy home on Squaw Island but were eventually given away to family friends. Pushinka’s descendants are still living today. A photo of descendants of some of the Space Dogs is on display at the Zvezda Museum outside Moscow.
On this day in 1962, the famous South African activist Nelson Mandela was arrested. Mandela was previously arrested in
1956 on treason charges, but was acquitted and forced underground for several years. In 1961, Mandela helped to found Umkhonto we
Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), which served as the militant armed wing of the African National
Congress political party, born out of frustration among anti-apartheid
activists that their non-violence was met with brutality by white
authorities against black citizens. He was arrested in August 1962 for inciting a workers’ strike and leaving the country illegally, and in November was sentenced to five years in prison, despite protests from anti-apartheid activists. A year later, authorities found more evidence of Mandela’s involvement in the violence of Umkhonto we
Sizwe, and his sentence was increased to life imprisonment, avoiding a death sentence. While imprisoned on Robben Island, Nelson Mandela was largely
condemned as a terrorist by Western nations, and he spent his time in jail performing hard labour. By the 1980s, a movement campaigning for his release was gaining traction, and Mandela’s reputation grew as a
significant black leader both in South Africa and internationally. After twenty-seven years in prison, Mandela was finally freed in 1990, after the ban on the ANC was lifted by the government of President F.W. de Klerk, who was beginning to dismantle apartheid. Upon his release, Mandela led the ANC in the
successful negotiations with President de Klerk to end apartheid,
and was overwhelmingly elected President
of South Africa in the first multi-racial elections in 1994, serving
“When my sentence has been completed I will still be moved, as men are
always moved, by their consciences; I will still be moved by my dislike
of the race discrimination against my people when I come out from
serving my sentence, to take up again, as best I can, the struggle for
the removal of those injustices until they are finally abolished once
and for all” - Mandela during his 1962 trial
so i was watching dan’s 2013 videos the other day, and something caught my eye in “How NOT to Stay Cool” - 19th July 2013 and you see this fan? (he’s holding it rn) and i noticed something he said. at 3:57 he says “yeah thats great at night when I’m trying to sleep next to it” (referring to the beeping noise the fan makes)
i then remembered something i saw in one of cat’s vlogs, “LONDON BOUND: Day 1” - 15th august 2013. and yep, at 5:53, right on the bed stand, it’s the same fan. and since i live in the south east of england as well, i can confirm that it was still as boiling hot in august 2013 as it was in july 2013. why would dan have gotten rid of his fan just so phil can be cooler? (unless they were sleeping in the same room YOU SEE WHAT I'M GETTING AT HERE)
moments earlier, at 5:50, we hear cat say “i don’t know if i should film in here..” and quietly in the background we just about hear phil say “yeah you can yeah” if you go watch the video, he almost seems unsure.
*this is the point I go creepy stalker mode*
i had a poke around the videos and, isn’t the fan on the opposite side of the bed to which phil sleeps on? we see this in all the day in the life videos, this scene is from “A Day in the Life of Dan and Phil in London!” at 0:11.
later in the same video, dan goes to wake dan up.
(this is at 0:35) first thing i notice, his water glass on his bedside table is basically full - it hasn’t been touched *side note* who actually wakes up in this position?
a few shots later, we get a clearer, wider shot view of his bed. look at how his bed sheets appear. the bottom sheet only has lines where his body is pressing down on the mattress, not the wrinkles you would get had he been in that bed all night. his pillow is also hardly touched at all, the only creases are where his head has just been rested down.
if he had been sleeping in that bed, surely his duvet would also be spread wider over the bed, the pillow would be flatter and the other pillow wouldn’t be quite so fluffed up.
unless he had been completely still on his back all night, it appears that he did not sleep in this bed.
ohh, he’s on the wrong side of the bed as well…
“I Can’t Sleep” 30th august 2012 - 1:45 - right hand side
“How To Get Out of Bed” 28th January 2014 - 3:47 - right hand side, pillows and sheet messed up from moving around to film (pretty sure people move around in the night as well? well apparently not according to dan…)
so there we go! that analysis over… in conclusion, it seems as if they had been sharing a bed, going from dates and positioning of the fan, it just adds up..
*disclaimer* i am just suggesting that they sleep in the same bed. i am not claiming phan is real (as much as i wish it was)
at the beginning of “A Day in the Life of Dan and Phil in London!” phil seems far too awake to have just woken up. he is talking loudly and clearly, eyes wide open and only squints and yawns when he says he has just woken up (i’m ngl that yawn is so fake, go watch 0:02) and then his glasses are conveniently placed on his lap… all prepared…
ohh and when he goes to wake dan up, we can hear dan’s voice very clearly through the door, he sounds awake enough… (compare to his waking up voice in ditl in manchester for reference) his eyes too are wide open and as i said earlier, who really wakes up and stays in this position until your friend comes and wakes you up?
and one final thing, phil says the time he wakes up is 10:30am, when him, dan and chris are in the pub, dan say’s phil put the cat sticker on his arm at 10am… i know it is a general time and there is a large margin of error, but it’s just a suggestion!
ohh and one last thing! thank you to the amazing ’thepurplehedgehogs’ for pointing out that his hair is already straightened and styled in the ditl. much love tyvm
On this day in 1883, the French fashion designer Coco Chanel was born in Saumur. Born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, after the death of her mother she was sent to an orphanage and raised by nuns. As a young woman, Chanel frequently sang in cafes, during which time she acquired the name Coco. Having learned to sew at the orphanage, Chanel opened a hat shop in Paris in 1910, with the financial backing of her wealthy lover. Chanel began making clothes after she made a dress out of an old jersey on a cold day, and people expressed interest in her clothes. By the 1920s, Chanel’s business had expanded, allowing her to launch her first perfume - Chanel No. 5. However, a deal struck with businessmen who helped produce and market the perfume meant Chanel herself only received 10 percent of the profits. Also in the 1920s, she introduced the iconic Chanel suit and the little black dress, which were revolutionary and liberating in their emphasis on comfort over restrictive clothing such as corsets which had defined women’s fashion for decades. Chanel had a tumultuous and well-publicised love life, dating the duke of Westminster and, during the Nazi occupation of Paris, becoming involved with a German military officer. The scandal of her involvement with Nazis, coupled with the company’s financial difficulties after the Depression, led Chanel to retreat from the public eye until the 1950s. Coco Chanel lived long enough to see her career revived and her life be adapted into a Broadway musical starring Katharine Hepburn. Since her death in 1971 aged 87, the company she founded continues to be one of the most iconic names in fashion.
