six swans part two?

re: the last couple posts on this blog, i am interested in doing a second Six Swans album, and the couple of initial submissions i’ve gotten are… stunning.

however. the first six swans album was a free download. it has now been downloaded 6,440 times. i’ve had to pay for bandcamp download credits for all of those, plus credits for an additional 1,146 single song downloads. i can’t afford to do that again.

there’s was another riveyoncecuoknowles project in the pipeline a couple months ago - not a mashup album, something different - and that project is now stalled, but the intent of that project was to raise money for the ACLU and planned parenthood.

so now i’m thinking that the logical thing to do here is charge a nominal fee for the album download - like, no more than five bucks - and then split the proceeds between the ACLU and planned parenthood. BUT i just have to figure out how we can go about that legally.

sufjan and drake were very, very generous with us last time around; we didn’t get a single takedown notice from either camp, and asthmatic kitty went so far as to post the link on twitter and facebook. but i’m guessing a lot of that had to do with the fact that the album was always a free download. i don’t know if we’d have the same experience if we were charging money for the download - even though all proceeds would be going to charity and i would of course post receipts of all donations.

anyway, we just have to figure out the legal side of all this, because i would very much like for this next mash-up album to give the ACLU and PPFA ammo to defeat trump, but we probably can’t do that without sufjan and drake’s okay. i’ll keep y’all posted!

I almost forgot I needed to get this out here.

Lexical density (LD) is a rough measure of word variety that compares the number of distinct content words to the total words. It broadly suggests how complicated a character’s speech sounds and is sensitive to the size of the corpus being analyzed (the larger the corpus, the smaller the LD), so only similarly sized corpora can be easily compared; look at this post to get an idea of how it works. Cursing rate(CR) is self-explanatory and is not sensitive to corpus size. Distinctive words are determined by comparing their dialog to the rest of the beta trolls.

Aradia: 7298 words, which includes data from both being alive and dead. The LD is 19.0%, which is lower than expected. Distinctive words include memory, Sollux, bubble, time, and fragment.

Tavros: 6,440 words with a LD of 18.3%, which is lower than expected. Distinctive words include Rufio, confident, esteem, self, and confidence.

Sollux: 5,182 words with a LD of 19.6, which is lower than expected. Distinctive words include KK, blind, AA, tips, and voices.

Karkat: About 38,900 words (the highest of the betas and the highest or second highest of any Homestuck character, depending on how you count John’s blahs) with an LD of 11.6%, which is higher than expected. Distinctive words include fucking, fuck, god, future, shit, and Jade.

Nepeta: 2,638 words (the smallest talker of the betas) with a LD of 26.0%, which is about as expected for a corpus of this size. Distinctive words include AC, fun, Equius, CT, and pounce.

Kanaya: 10,339 words with an LD of 19.6, which is slightly higher than expected. Distinctive words include orb, frog, dangerous, appearify, and Rose.

Terezi: 18,334 words with an LD of 14.5%, which is slightly lower than expected. Distinctive words include Dave, justice, coolkid, candy, and delicious.

Vriska:  27,980 words (the second biggest talker of the betas) with an LD of 11.8%, which is about as expected. Distinctive words include John, Tavros, treasure, boring, and man (as in “man, this is…”).

Equius: 3,596 words with an LD of 29.6%, which is much higher than expected. Distinctive words include command, highblood, Nepeta, position, and towel.

Gamzee 4328 words with an LD of 19.5%, which is much lower than expected. Distinctive words include motherfuckin, honk, fuckin, motherfucker, and brother.

Eridan: 4,450 words with an LD of 22.2%, which is slightly lower than expected. Distinctive words include fuckin, Kar, feelins, Fef, glub.

Feferi: 3,015 words (the second lowest of the betas) with an LD Of 29.9%, which is lower than expected. Distinctive words include glub, Eridan, exciting, dream, fishy.

The Karkat, Terezi, and Vriska data is slightly out of date, but it’s still accurate enough to be very meaningful.

Woman wins seat in Saudi election
Officials say Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi has been elected to Mecca council, with votes still being counted in first ever poll open to female voters and candidates

A Saudi woman has won a seat on Mecca’s municipal council in Saudi Arabia’s first ever elections open to female voters and candidates, the country’s election commission has announced.

Salma bint Hizab al-Oteibi was elected to the council of Madrakah, a region in the holy city of Mecca, the official SPA news agency reported, citing election commission president Osama al-Bar.

She was running against seven men and two women, he said.

Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy with some of the world’s tightest restrictions on women, including a ban on driving.

It was the last country to allow only men to vote, and polling stations were segregated for Saturday’s election.

Among the 6,440 candidates were more than 900 women, who overcame a number of obstacles to participate in the landmark poll.

Female candidates could not directly meet any male voters during their campaigns.

Female voters said registration was hindered by factors including bureaucratic obstacles and a lack of transport.

As a result women accounted for fewer than 10% of registered voters. Few female candidates were expected to be elected.

Tavros speaks a reasonable amount at 6,440 words with 1180 entries 6,440, giving a lexical density (a rough measure of word diversity) of 18.3%, which is lower than expected for this corpus size but expected for this Nitram.

With a reasonable degree of confidence, his most distinctive words as compared to the other beta trolls are Rufio, confident, esteem, self, and confidence.

Interestingly enough, his wavering attitude is not very apparent in this cloud, but the first word that starts to show this is “sorry” and the greater prominence of “bad” than usual.

His cursing rate is low at 0.31%, about 1 in 320 words, which is about the same amount as Cronus Ampora does.
