July 7. Light shining on my off computer screen and dust smears. Taken for The Art Assignment, Off with Lauren Zoll.

If you haven’t heard of The Art Assignment you should check it out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/theartassignment. It’s a great resource for learning about contemporary art concepts, current artists, and participating in projects with an online community.

Stop walking the same way every day or everytime you’re heading somewhere. Believe me, you’ll be amazed by the places you suddenly discover in your town.

This is a café I love. I went there to have a nice lunch with a friend and since we wanted to walk a bit we decided to walk. No idea why, but we also decided to take a different way than usual. Not heading along the main road, but through some side streets. On the way we found two new places we want to check out this month. I realized that I had studied amongst these roads for 6 years, and not once have I walked through them. Lesson learned, don’t walk the way everyone else choses, don’t walk the same way every day.

I always wanted to do a portrait like this, but I was always to afraid to try and thought it was so much work. Guess what, it wasn’t that much work and it was totally worth every second.

My todays lesson learned: Experiment more! Invest more! Yes, good shots take time. Achieving something new takes time. But don’t let that scare you. Ask other photographers, ask google. All the knowledge is out there, all the images you want are out there. Just dedicate yourself to it and you’ll find everything your artistic heart desires for.

The photo from February 8th, is of the teeniest three month old ever. Jonah was born at 31 weeks, and spent 77 days in the NICU before being able to come home with his wonderful parents. He is tiny, and adorable, and such a little warrior baby. Extended NICU stays are terrifying and quite costly, and if you are looking for a worthy cause these days, I can assure you, he is IT. e has fought so hard and grown from a micro-preemie at birth, weighing only 2 lbs 3 oz, and is now a whopping 6 lbs 5 oz (almost a full 3 lbs less than my smallest newborn!!!). He has more medical procedures to undergo, but things are definitely looking up for the little guy. His family has a fundraising site to help out with his medical costs set up here. I know they would be so appreciative of the support :).

I wonder what children think when they read without actually knowing how to read. My nephew can sit there for hours and look through a newspaper or magazine. I wonder what headlines look like for him, how words and letter come to life in his mind and what would he think about the real news? I envy him for being a child and not seeing the world as this place full of problems and wrong attitudes. Instead, the newspaper is still a playground for his mind and a wonderful adventure.
