I don’t know when my life became bite sized metaphors for something or someone else, I don’t know when I grew tired of comparing my heart to an ocean, a nebula, a thunderstorm. It seems the only way I can spread my toes and stretch my arms up fully in the vastness that is my being is when I can describe it as something other than myself.
I fall in love with the sound of waves lapping the shore. I fall in love with the splash of puddles on my leg as a car passes me in the rain. I fall in love with the unfathomable entity that is the cosmos. And one day, after I find enough of what I love between the bones that carry my heart, I will fall in love with myself, too.
