30 Day Buffy Challenge - DAY 29 EPISODE YOU HATE THAT EVERYONE ELSE LOVES: S7xE13 “The Killer In Me”
This episode has it’s good moments, but I just can’t bring myself to love it like most Willow fans do. It’s complicated.
First off, how aggressively Kennedy pursues Willow annoys me, but that’s beside the point. I’ve heard a lot of Tara fans even like this episode, because it shows just how in love with her Willow still is, and how guilty she still feels. Yeah ok, I get that. But there’s the whole thing with “Warren’s Personality” coming through her, making her say things she wouldn’t (like above) but I honestly think that if those thoughts weren’t in her mind in the first place, she would have never said them. Then, suddenly, when Kennedy kisses her (and there’s the whole “magic is just like fairytales” line that makes me wanna punch Kennedy in the mouth) then BAM Tara is never mentioned again for the rest of the series (until the comics).
I just don’t like how that scene was handled, and just can’t get myself to like this episode no matter how much the film buff in me appreciates how hard it must have been to film. Haha.
This is a relationship that started out so rocky and it was crazy to watch. I always loved it because it is so intense and so real. Spike really loves her, whether or not she loves him. He is willing to sacrifice himself for her on many many occasions and she does realize that the love that he feels is real and she tries to respect it while not indicating that she is interested in him. After she dies, the look on Spike’s face is so heartbreaking, as was the speech right before the battle. Spike gives some of the best speeches to Buffy on this show. Always pulling on my heartstrings. Spike understand and loves Buffy on a level that no one else does. And he does this while he doesn’t have a soul. It is amazing to see because you want to think that he is not capable of those things because he is evil, but the love that he feels for Buffy is enough to cause him to give up trying to be evil. It is wonderful to watch. IT is so strong and so beautiful, there are so many moments where I am just falling in love with him even more. Then his evil self goes and gets his soul back to give Buffy what she deserves. So amazing. He shows so many acts of true love and in the end she decides to say “I love you” even though she doesn’t feel it, although I have always thought that on some level she does. The relationship is so much more real and intense than any other one on the shows, it is one I really wished had gone on more.
“You listen to me. I’ve been alive a bit longer than you, and dead a lot longer than that. I’ve seen things you couldn’t imagine, and done things I prefer you didn’t. Don’t exactly have a reputation for being a thinker. I follow my blood…which doesn’t exactly rush in the direction of my brain. So I make a lot of mistakes. A lot of wrong bloody calls. A hundred-plus years, and there’s only one thing I’ve ever been sure of. You. Hey, look at me. I’m not asking you for anything. When I say I love you, it’s not because I want you, or because I can’t have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are. What you do. How you try. I’ve seen your kindness, and your strength. I’ve seen the best and the worst of you, and I understand, with perfect clarity, exactly what you are. You’re a hell of a woman. You’re the One, Buffy.”
RUNNER-UP: Wesley and Fred. I loved this ship soooo much, it always made so much sense to me. It is such a tragic romance. It takes soooo long before they get together and we do not even get to see it really.
