2x13 dead reckoning

  • The rooftop of 780 Mercer. John is in a bomb vest set to go off in less than a minute. Harold is trying to hack into the phone that will trigger the explosion. They have five possible unlock codes but only three attempts before the phone locks them out. Two attempts have failed. This is their last chance.
  • Harold, catching John looking at him: "What?" *looks back down at his phone, trying to decide what to do*
  • John, smiling and looking at Harold: "Something you said once. About how sooner or later we'd both probably end up dead."
  • Harold, still looking down at his phone: "I'd prefer later. After all, I'm the one that got you into this in the first place."
  • John, still smiling, looking at the sky: "I'm pretty sure I'd be dead already if you hadn't found me."
  • Harold, still looking down at his phone: "It's hard to say."
  • John, still fucking smiling, looking back down, directly at Harold: "Not really."
  • Harold: *looks up*

This Reese/Carter scene from Dead Reckoning (2x13).

The expression of disbelief upon his face. The few disconnected words that tumble out. The shock of hearing her voice and seeing her actually walk through that door. What is Carter doing here? His distress is not fully for himself. Reese believes that his time has come, that all his sins have caught up with him and he is resigned to his fate. He goes to his default setting of Protect Carter. Her sacrifices during Prisoner’s Dilemma (the previous episode) flash through his mind. Here she is - there with him, again? Is this woman real? Remember when I was massive thorn in your by-the-book side?! Then he sees Lionel and he knows it is really happening. She stands her ground. The good soldier won’t leave him behind. This is Carter, her loyalty never ceases. He must recruit the always practical and to the point Fusco. Only the mention of Taylor convinces her to stop trying to save him, to let John go. The small but poignant physical contact must be broken. The secure grips upon two forearms are reluctantly loosened. However, the psychological hold is tighter, the bond deeper. A piece of the other is carried into their respective futures. They separate for what they know to be the final time…
