24hr Zine Challenge | Portland Zine Symposium

It’s that time of year again! The Portland Zine Symposium is a holding the annual 24 Hour Zine Challenge! it’s a fundraiser for the Portland Zine Symposium and it’s super fun! If you are in Portland you can sign up to participate by creating a zine withing 24 hours. For $5 which will provide you with snacks, food and coffee coffee coffee at the IPRC for 24 hours!

If you aren’t in Portland you can still play along by signing up for the general 24 hour zine thing OR  sponsoring a zinester! If the person/s you sponsor don’t complete a 24 page zine in 24 hours you don’t have to pay!

If you sponsor a zinester for $10 or more you will get a copy of the completed zine sent to you and the good feeling that you supported the Portland Zine Symposium!

So, if you want to be a participate or sponsor someone follow the link and read how. I’d say sponsoring me would be a good bet. In 4 years I haven’t failed yet and you might just get a zine of mine that you won’t get anywhere else!

The Legend of the Crooked Girl Scout (2014)

The Legend of the Crooked Girl Scout is a tiny choose-your-own-adventure comic I created for 24 Hour Zine Making Challenge. Physical copies are about 4 x 5 cm, and the original art was also drawn at this scale. You can buy one via Gumroad, or by contacting me directly. A free interactive PDF is also available and includes clickable links to ease navigation, provided you read it using compatible software.

Zine Month at the Library

The Olympia Timberland Library will be celebrating International Zine Month in July with several free community events!

On July 11, the library will host their 7th annual 24-Hour Zine Thing.  Participants are encouraged to make a 24-page zine in 24 hours, with supplies available at the library from 2 to 8 PM.  Readings by Carrie Born, Sage Adderley, Alice Wynne and Dreamboat Annie will cap off the event from 6:30 to 8 PM.

Reid Urban and Jefferson Doyle will also read from their zines on July 16 at 7:30 PM.

Please help the Portland Zine Symposium by sponsoring me in the 24 Hour Zine Challenge!

The Portland Zine Symposium is hosting their 4th annual 24 Hour Zine challenge. This awesome event is a fundraiser for PZS and works like a charity walk. You sponsor a participant (or participants!) and you only have to pay-up if the participant/s finish the challenge! If you sponsor someone for at least $10 you will even receive the zine the participant makes!

I have taken part in this event for the past two years and have finished both times.  I will be participating again in the 24 Hour Zine Challenge that  will be held at the new spacious Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland, Oregon on 21 July. I would love love love it if you could help out the Portland Zine Symposium and sponsor me, Alex Wrekk, in the 24 hour zine challenge. There will also be live cams to watch our sleep deprived scribbling….and also so that you can laugh at us.

So, go here and send and e-mail pledging to sponsor me for this year!

Since printing in colour is RIDICULOUSLY expensive around here for some reason (making a 24 page A5 zine 3 euro 60 in printing costs only) I first figured I would print it out in black and white, but I disliked it so much, that I reconsidered and printed it out on my home printer instead.

24 pages, A5, full colour, 24 copies in total (I’m not reprinting this zine), 1 euro + postage to wherever you are (NL 50 cents, Europe 85 cents, the rest of the world 95 cents). Zine trades are also welcome of course!
