20th anniversary series

like i have my problems with harry potter and jk rowling but it will never stop meaning something to me that rowling was a depressed 30-year single mother living on welfare when she thought of this story, that she was – in her own words– at rock bottom and she managed to put herself out there, to create this brilliant amazing series that has impacted so many people’s lives. there’s something to be said for hope.

Well today, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter series, we’re giving you a chance to revisit that world.  Here’s the first story NPR ever aired about Harry Potter — a wonderful piece by the late Margot Adler.

The X-Files Season 1 Pilot Episode. A few takes of Gillian struggling in the freezing rain and David encouraging her to make it through.

The Paley Center, 2013
The X-files Event, 20th Anniversary of the series’ premiere

Paley Guy (Keith Uhlrich): So let’s talk about the pilot and some of your memories of it. I had seen Gillian talk about the scene in the rain, in the graveyard.

David Duchovny: Oh, yeah.

Paley Guy: I think you said it one time: “I’ve had the highest voice of television” or something.

*imitating high-pitched sound*

David Duchovny: Heey! Come on!

Gillian Anderson: No, it’s true.

Paley Guy: No, no, no. Quoting. Quoting. Direct quoting.

David: We were talking about that earlier, how both of our voices were higher in the beginning of the show and it’s not because we went through puberty. It’s because we relaxed. I’ve seen early shows and my voice is definitely pitched a little.

Paley Guy: So what do you remember? Like any specific thing from the Pilot?

David: Well that scene in the rain. Oh, God. That was awful.

Gillian: That was awful. It was like 4 o’clock in the morning, it was forced rain, too, wasn’t it? It was just take, after take, after take.

David: And you don’t like the rain, do you?

Gillian: It was freezing. It was really cold.

David: And it was hard.

Gillian: And our lips. We couldn’t talk because our lips were frozen. Literally frozen. And we were laughing.

David: We didn’t know what we were doing.  We didn’t know what we were saying.

David & Gillian: Who is Billy Miles?

Paley Guy: You didn’t know who Billy Miles was?

David: I still don’t.

Happy 1st Anniversary!

One year ago, I thought of the idea of producing a reanimated episode of the early Toei Yu-Gi-Oh series (known as “Season 0” by fans) with the help of artists, animators and translators because

  • I like the idea of organizing a project which can bring people together and get us to learn new things.
  • 2016 marked the 20th anniversary of YGO. This series is a huge important part of my childhood.
  • Many people are not familiar with the pre-card game of YGO and I REALLY love to show everyone the true root of this wonderful series.

And one year later, I got to work with several hundred incredibly talented and amazing people across the globe! This project had a tremendous influence on many participants and myself included. I truly am thankful to everyone and glad to organize this project because not only we get to animate for a show we love, it also brings so many of us together as good friends! My hope is that this project will continue to lead to greater opportunities to these people.

YGO Reanimate is nearly wrapped up now. We are still on track for November or December 2017 release and I’m currently waiting for the remaining 16 shots before the final rendering can begin. Thank you everyone for the continuous love and support! I hope you all are as excited as I am for the episode release!!

P.S. No plan on what the next project is going to be just yet, I’ll share more info when the time comes. In the meantime, feel free to keep sending me suggestions and episode/chapter you’d like to see reanimated for YGO Reanimate 2!
