That 150th anniversary $10 note is the example image for “design by committee.” Not too long ago our banknotes were crisp and there was better design unity. Now we have jam-it-all-in sentimentality with garish decoration. Oh, and Century Gothic, which is the Arial of Futura clones.
They should look at the Israeli New Shekel series introduced in 2014. Bold portraiture, crisp typography, unabashed use of white space, and much subtler incorporation of security features. And still colourful!
