On May 26, 2012, 18-year-old Eero Hiltunen positioned himself on a low-rise roof with his father’s bolt-action hunting rifle, along with another rifle, shortly before 2 A.M. and began shooting at patrons at a restaurant across the street who were sitting outside in Hyvinkaa, Finland. He fatally shot two people and seriously injured eight others. Eero was apprehended a little over five hours after the shooting when he was spotted on the street, and he surrendered peacefully. He was found guilty on two counts of murder and seven attempted murder charges, for which he received life imprisonment on February 28, 2013.
