     ↳ “Kevade ” 1969 (The Spring)

“Kevade” is a movie based on loved Oskar Luts’ novel “Kevade”. A semi-autobiographical story revolves around young teenagers from late 1800s. It’s about friendship, love, and life in a small Estonian country boarding school.

The movie gained over 558 000 viewers with its first year. It was voted as the best Estonian movie of all time in 2002, in 2011 it placed 3rd. In 2012 it was announced as an Estonian movie of the century.

“Kui Arno isaga koolimajja jõudis, olid tunnid juba alanud.” is one of the most iconic lines in both Estonian movie and literature history. The Spring has also been parodied a lot. Just like with “Viimne reliikvia”, a news show made a parody of it.

During the filming, they had to replace Toots’ actor with a new one, because he got in trouble. Actors also attended the local school when filming and their grades were much better. Ain Lutsepp, who played Tõnisson, did not want to be part of the movie at all, but his brother reminded him to do what he promised.

Many now known and loved actors starred in this movie: Ervin Abel, Rein Aedma, Endel Ani, Tõnu Alveus, Ita Ever, Riina Hein, Kaljo Kiisk, Aarne Laanemets, Ain Lutsepp, Aksel Orav, etc.
