Curiosities: ♦ Sharon
traveled extensively in her youth, living in at least ten different countries,
including Indonesia, where she lived between ages one and six. ♦ She has a bachelor’s
degree in fashion design. ♦ Sharon has a mezzo-soprano
range, though she has a light and lyric vocal quality for that range.
Personal life: ♦ During high school den Adel met Robert Westerholt who introduced her to Paradise
Lost. As their partnership grew, in
1996 they came to form a band called The Portal, though the name was changed to
Within Temptation before their debut recording. ♦ Sharon and long-term partner Robert have three
children together (daughter Eva Luna, sons Robin Aiden and Logan Arwin).
I remember Jamie Hewlett from his Tank Girl work. But when he partnered with Damon Albarn to create the first, successful virtual band known only as the Gorillaz back in 2001, he was forever etched in illustration and animation lore as one of the greats. Ahead of it’s time (after After Watanabe’s Sharon Apple of course, lol), the Gorillaz went on to successfully sell over 7 million copies of their debut album, break a Guiness World Record and withdrawn Mercury Prize (at the band’s request). Their followup went 5 times platinum in the UK alone and 2-times platinum in the US, nabbing 5 grammy nods and winning one.
