1964 new york worlds fair

Today is Friday the 13th

For the superstitious, today is the day when strange and unusual things happen.

At the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, visitors to the General Motors Futurama ride witnessed what they thought was strange and unusual: life underwater.  In these two scenes, GM designers envisioned the possibilities of inhabiting the sea, such as riding aqua scooters, commuting on underwater trains and staying in underwater hotels.  The aqua copter, a two-person underwater vehicle with claw-handed arms was capable of operating on the ocean floor, and would be used to explore the vast depths to scavenge minerals, chemicals and other natural resources.

Good luck all—it’s also a full moon tonight…

another fact-

Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair and was heralded as one of the most technologically advanced audio-animatronics of its time

A replica of this attraction opened at Disneyland in 1965 while it was still running at the world’s fair. When the one at the world’s fair closed, the original lincoln animatronic disappeared.

They found him many years later in a crate! Apparently he had been shipped back to California after the fair ended, but had been forgotten about, so he was just chillin in a crate for a while.
