1938 fashion

in 1938,  a 28-year-old kindergarten teacher, Helen Hulick, entered a courtroom in L.A. to testify in a burglary trial.  When presiding judge, Arthur S. Guerin saw that she was wearing slacks, he immediately re-scheduled her testimony and told her to wear a dress the next time she came to court.  A week later, Helen returned to court still wearing slacks and the judge sentenced her to five days in jail for contempt of court.
