Cilla Black's great-nephew is auditioning for The Voice - and he's planning a very special tribute to the singer

The great-nephew of Cilla Black, who is vying for a place on The Voice, hopes to keep success in the family by releasing an album of covers of her hits later this year.

Tobias Robertson, 22, from Newport, South Wales, has chosen not to audition with one of the national treasure’s famous songs, but will attempt to charm the judges with Randy Newman’s You’ve Got A Friend, also known as the theme song to Disney’s Toy Story.

Tobias hopes to make his famous relative proud as he sings on The Voice on Saturday (Guy Levy/Wall to Wall/BBC)

His audition was filmed in September, just a month after Cilla died of a stroke at her villa in Spain, and he said that the proximity to her death would have made one of her songs too much for his family to handle.

He told the Press Association: “The audition was quite close to when she passed away so I didn’t really want to go down that route, especially as my mum was there to watch and I know she would have burst into tears if I’ve started to sing a Cilla one.”

However, he would like to honour her by recording his take on her hits, which include Anyone Who Has A Heart, Alfie and You’re My World.

He hopes to record an album of Cilla covers (Yui Mok/PA)

“I wouldn’t release anything that wasn’t to the very best of my abilities and didn’t reflect the best of her work and my performance. It’s something I’d have to really think about because it obviously means a lot but it’s definitely something I’ve been thinking of and it might come later this year,” he said.

Even though he only met the Blind Date host once in his life, Tobias had a lifetime of inspiration to take with him as he stepped in front of the coaches’ red chairs.

They met at the funeral of his grandfather – Cilla’s brother George – in 2010, where his mum mentioned to her that Tobias was pursuing a music career.

“Cilla said to me, ‘You just need to carry on. If you want to do something and there’s nothing else you want to do, keep going for it no matter what.’ So I always think of that.”

He continued: “It’s inspiring to have her, a blood relative who came from the same financial and cultural background as I do and she managed to achieve those things. Even though it’s in a different era, I still feel like it’s possible to actually achieve what you want to achieve, because she did it, so why can’t I?”

Tobias did admit that the TV talent show route was not one he expected to take, but as a full-time musician he said he valued the “platform for exposure”.

He added it was a “shame” that he would no longer get to perform in front of legendary singer and fellow Welshman Sir Tom Jones, who has been replaced with Boy George in a panel shake-up.

Tobias said it was a “shame” Sir Tom was no longer a coach (Ian West/PA)

But as someone who is “self-confessed a bit weird”, he thought it was “really cool” to have “out there and eccentric” Boy George and Paloma Faith as coaches.

Even without Sir Tom on the panel, he said the support he had received in Wales was “overwhelming” and kept the pressure on him mounting.

“It’s got to go well. It feels like I’m representing Wales and a little bit of Liverpool.”

Tobias will be competing against contestants including Mari Marli and four-time Britain’s Strongest Woman Gemma Magnusson.

:: The Voice airs on Saturday night on BBC One at 7.15pm.

HCP Set to Report Q4 Earnings: Will it Disappoint Investors?

HCP Inc. HCP is slated to report fourth-quarter and full-year 2015 results on Feb 9, 2016, before the opening bell.

This healthcare real estate investment trust (“REIT”) has beaten the Zacks Consensus Estimate in the trailing four quarters with an average beat of 2.28%. HCP had reported third-quarter 2015 adjusted funds from operations (“FFO”) per share of 79 cents, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by a penny and up 4 cents year over year. Results benefited from solid growth in top line. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the fourth quarter is currently pegged at 78 cents per share.

Will HCP fail to report positive surprise this quarter?? Let’s see how things are shaping up prior to this announcement.

Factors to Consider

HCP’s growth is hindered by cut-throat competition in its markets. Moreover, excessive dependency on a limited number of operators as well as a few markets increases the risks of market share loss for the company.

Further, a rise in interest rates can pose a challenge for HCP as it has huge exposure to long-term leased assets. Since the long-term triple-net leased properties have fixed rental rates, any rise in interest rate would increase expenses. Moreover, a hike in rates would increase the cost of financing acquisitions, as well as expenses related to investment and development activity.

Nevertheless, we expect HCP to benefit from rising healthcare spending, and a growing aging population. Further, strategic investments, tie-ups and acquisitions are expected to drive decent cash flows.

Overall, HCP’s performance during the quarter was inadequate to win analysts’ confidence. As a result, the Zacks Consensus Estimate fell by a penny to 78 cents over the last 30 days.

Earnings Whispers

Our proven model does not conclusively show that HCP will beat earnings this quarter. This is because a stock needs to have both a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy) or 3 (Hold) for this to happen. That is not the case here as you will see below.

Zacks ESP: Earnings ESP for HCP is -2.56%.  This is because the Most Accurate estimate of 76 cents stands below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 78 cents.

Zacks Rank: HCP’s Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) further lowers the predictive power of ESP.

Stocks to Consider

Here are a few stocks in the REIT sector you may want to consider instead, as our model shows that they have the right combination of elements to post a positive surprise this quarter:

National Retail Properties, Inc. NNN has an Earnings ESP of +1.79% and a Zacks Rank #2. The company will report results on Feb 11.

Vornado Realty Trust VNO has an Earnings ESP of +4.65% and a Zacks Rank #3. The company will release results on Feb 16.

EPR Properties EPR has an Earnings ESP of +1.72% and a Zacks Rank #3. The company will report fourth-quarter 2015 results on Feb 24.

Note: FFO, a widely used metric to gauge the performance of REITs, is obtained after adding depreciation and amortization and other non-cash expenses to net income. All earnings per share numbers presented in this write up represent FFO per share.
