11th armored

This was the first tank crew of the 41st Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division, 3rd US Army to reach the Rhine in the breakthrough. Crew members are: Cpl. William Hanse, Private Marvin Aldridge, T/4 John Latimi, Cpl. Vincent Merreale and Cpl. Sidney Mayer, 21 March 1945. Shown is a M4A3E8 Sherman tank with added armor.

Battle of the Crossroads: At 0745 an element of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment on Operation KENTUCKY COUGAR engaged an unknown size enemy force 8 km north-northeast of Loc Ninh in Binh Long Province. The enemy returned fire with small arms, automatic weapons and RPG fire. As fighting continued, other elements of the Blackhorse Regiment and an element of the 2d Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division moved into the area and reinforced the troops in contact. Action continued in the afternoon until 1600 when the enemy withdrew. Results are 35 enemy killed, 1 US KIA and 9 US WIA. Two M113 ACAV and two M551 ARV Sheridan were destroyed.
