Chapter 11

**Three Weeks Later**

~ General Point Of View ~

It was Monday morning and Jude went to his locker to grab his books for his next class. From the corner of his eyes he could see Connor and Cecilia making out by Connors locker. He groaned because that was the direction of his next class. He grabbed his books and decided to take the long way around. He was drowned in his own thoughts, not even noticing that Taylor had walked up right next to him.

“Hey Jude,” Taylor said. “Jude!”

“Oh.. Hi Taylor,” Jude replied.

“What are you thinking so deeply about?” She asked, “and isn’t your class the other way?” She continued turning around.

“I’d rather take the scenic route around, you know walking is good for you!” He lied. Taylor stopped and glanced the other direction to see what the real reason was.

“Oh,” she said simply walking beside Jude again, “want to talk about it?”

“No, I’m good, really,” Jude replied, “so what do you and Derek have planned for Valentine’s Day?” Jude asked. It was coming up this weekend.

“I actually don’t know. The dork won’t tell me,” she replied. Jude laughed a little thinking that he would be alone that night, which just happened to be a Saturday night.

Jude and Taylor went their separate ways as the bell rang to get to class. In class Jude made sure to focus on the assignment so that he wouldn’t get lost in his thoughts. It went well because he was in English and that was in his forte.

After class, Jude headed to lunch. Ever since the second semester began, Jude would eat alone in the cafeteria. Taylor ate with Derek, Connor and Cecilia, mostly because she had to. Derek and Connor had become great friends and Taylor still talked to Connor. They ate outside in the courtyard by the tree. As Jude began eating his lunch, he couldn’t help but think about Connor. Jude still didn’t believe Connor would do that to him, but what could he do? Connor wouldn’t talk.

As Jude thought about the continuous possibilities, he didn’t notice that someone had sat down right beside him. “Hey Jude!… Jude… earth to Jude!”

Jude turns his head at the sudden call of his name. “Oh hey Chris! What’s up?” Jude asks.

“What are you doing eating in here? Don’t you usually sit with Taylor and Connor outside?” He asked curiously now eating the food he placed In front of him.

“Oh not today, I kind of wanted to stay in the air conditioning today.” Jude replied looking away. “You haven’t sat with them the past 2 weeks,” Chris retorted.

Jude kept looking away and didn’t give a reply. “So what can I help you with?” Jude finally asked.

“Can’t I just sit next to my friend?” Chris smirked a little.

“Yea I guess,” Jude laughed back.

After about five minutes eating in silence, Chris finally spoke up, “actually, I was wondering if you’d like to go see a movie or have dinner with me.”

Jude, very much in shock from the question was speechless, he just stared at Chris. “I’m sorry, it’s ok if you don’t. I thought I’d give it a shot since, I’ve never seen you date anyone. Also because I think you’re really cute,” Chris finally said.

“I didn’t know you were gay, or that you liked me,” Jude finally said.

“Don’t you remember, my first day here? You showed me around the school and I hinted that I liked you?” Chris stated.

** flashback**

10th grade

“Jude honey, this is Chris, he just moved here from Wisconsin. Would you mind shaking him around the school?” She asked. Jude looked at Chris up and down. He was a few inches taller than Jude, had black hair and blue eyes. He was a little more built than Jude.

“I don’t mind momma,” Jude replied. As I showed him around the school, he would stop staring at me. “So when are the baseball tryouts?” He asked. “Oh you’re into baseball?” Jude asked. “Totally! It’s like my favorite sport!” Chris replied eagerly. “Well they are later this week. You’ll find out in your baseball period,” Jude said. Jude continued the tour and made conversations as they moved through the halls. “You’re a pretty cool guy, Jude” Chris winked at him. “Thanks, you’re not too bad yourself,” Jude replied.

**end flashback**

“Oh is that what that was?!” Jude replied,

“You can’t blame me for not noticing because of a wink.” Jude continued to laugh.

“Ok ouch! Fine, laugh at my pain!” Chris complained.

"So wait, why didn’t you ask me sooner?” Jude inquired.

“Because I was too scared. I had wanted to get on the baseball team and I didn’t want to make things more awkward since I was already new” He replied simply.

“What changed?” Jude retorted.

“Well you were alone right now and I guess I just didn’t want to regret not knowing an answer,” he gave a half smile.

Jude thought a while as Chris finished eating his meal. “Well I hope things won’t be weird with us. Don’t be mad at me Jude, ok?” He asked getting up from his spot.

“Wait!” Jude suddenly said. He thought about hot nice and handsome Chris was. Then he thought about Connor and how much he loved him. He was conflicted on what to do. So he just went with his head.

“I’d love to go out to that movie of dinner with you!” Jude said smiling at him.

“Really?! Great!” Chris said excitedly, kissing Jude quickly on his cheek. Jude blushed a little. "Ok I’ll pick you up tonight?” He asked. “Sure, see you then.” Jude replied with a little smile. Chris hugged Jude before walking out.

Jude couldn’t stop thinking about Chris asking him out the rest of school. It felt like it was a mistake, but at the same time, it felt like the right choice. After school, Jude made his way to the parking lot like he usually did. As he got to his car he glanced around and saw Connor making out with Cecilia again. They pulled out of the make out session and Jude made eye contact with Connor. His facial expression was plain and simple, and it could not be read. Jude quickly turned back around, turned on his car and quickly made his way home.

Jude went straight to his room. It was an empty house right now. Mom was at work, momma had a meeting and Jude was the only one kid who left in the house. He looked at the time 3:15. Chris would pick him up at 6 for their date. Jude was now lost in his mind, he kept thinking about how he is betraying Connor, and how some of it doesn’t feel right.

Jude finally cracked at went to his desk and got out a piece of paper and his pen.

“Dear Connor, Chris asked me out and I said yes. It doesn’t feel right because I’m still in love with you, but you don’t or you won’t show any feelings for me. I don’t know if it’s the right choice, but I have to try. Maybe this is the best way to get over you. Maybe I can finally sleep peacefully for once these past 2 weeks. I don’t understand why you’re doing this. But I can’t keep pining after you, I need to move on. But know that you will always be in my heart ~ love Jude.”

Jude placed the paper in the bottom drawer with the other letters. He always felt better after pouring his heart out on paper. He had 2 hours till his date. He did all his homework, which took about one and a half hours and then he got ready. He decided to wear dark jeans and a green buttoned down plaid shirt with vans. He put on some cologne and gelled his hair to the right. He made sure he had his phone, wallet and keys before he left his room.

*ding*

Jude checked his phone:

Taylor: are you busy? I need some help with this homework.

Jude: I actually am busy, but I can help you in the morning.

Taylor: you’re never busy on Mondays. What happened?

Jude: I just made plans with someone.

Taylor: who?

Jude: just someone, I got to go, TTYL. Bye Taylor: … Bye

Jude hadn’t told Taylor about all that happened with Connor. All she knew was they weren’t talking anymore.

He made his way downstairs to where his moms were preparing dinner. “Shit, I forgot to tell them!” He thought to himself.

“You look awfully nice for a family dinner,” Stef asked looking up from her work.

“Yea… About that. I kind of made plans with someone and forgot to tell you guys. Can I go please? I finished all my homework and I’ll be home by 11,” Jude replied.

“What sort of plans?” Lena asked, now mixing the salad.

“It’s a date,” Jude replied bluntly averting his gaze from his moms.

“Oh, well that’s a first,” they both said in unison, “ok bud, just make sure you’re home by curfew,” Lena continued.

“Oh who is it?!” She asked with eager in her voice.

“I’d rather not say right now,” Jude replied walking outside before his moms could further question him.

As soon as Jude went out to the front porch, Lena and Stef looked at each other.

“Since he’s been here, he’s never dated a single person, I wonder who it is,” Stef asked.

“It has to be Connor, I mean you see the way they look at each other.” Lena replied.

“Well I guess we won’t know until he tells us,” Lena replied moving behind her wife, putting her arms around Lena’s waist. “

You know that means we have the whole house to ourselves for a couple of hours,” Stef said mischievously, kissing Lena across the neck, making her way to Lena’s cheek. Lena gave a short laugh and turned around giving her wife a quick peck on the lips, “after we eat dinner my love.”

Outside Jude waited for Chris to pick him up. He looked down at his phone screen, it read 5:58. A little longer he thought. Chris’ car finally pulled up to Jude’s driveway and Jude made his ear to Chris’s car. Chris got out of the car and hugged Jude.

“You look really nice!” Chris said looking at Jude up and down.

“Thank you, you do too,” Jude said smiling a little. They both sat in Chris’ car and he drove off for their date.
