.i honestly don't know what to think about these i just enjoyed the film

I don't know if you still do the unpopular opinion thing but I have one. I believe that the show's success relies a bit too much on Malec. Like the promo videos especially, they put a Malec kiss in it without explanation just to attract attention and during cast interviews they talk about it so much. Don't get me wrong, i ain't complaining over seeing that but I'm just talking about the bigger picture.

Yeah well, as much as it annoyed me that Freeform gave away the only Malec scene of the episode in 2a, of them constantly promoting the shit out of Malec and not delivering in the end (which is, in all honesty not really their fault since they only can work with the stuff they get so if the directors/writers/showrunners don’t film certain scenes, they can’t use it….), I still understand them from a certain point. Like, Malec is their cash cow. I also don’t think they expected this when the show started since Clary and Jace are supposed to be the main leads and therefore the main couple in the books. And then show!Malec happened. lol

So of course they are using this circumstance now to promote the show. Besides, not to be that person but I am guessing that like 80-90% probably only watch for Malec/Magnus/Alec. Freeform relies on those viewers as any other network (it is still about money!), even though their numbers aren’t that great they still need people to watch it on a weekly basis, may it on the channel, the app, Hulu or Netflix. And if Malec helps them to gain more viewers or keep those viewers interested in the show by promoting the show with Malec, it is kinda understandable. Although it is not great what they did in 2a but hey, at least it looks like they are learning when it comes to the pr for 2b. ;) Also, the fans are constantly asking for Malec stuff in like any interview. So in some ways, Freeform just… does what they think the fans want in the end.

Plus, Malec is not only the cash cow because of their huge popularity in the fandom, you still have to understand that they (couple plus Magnus and Alec individually!) already play a bigger part in the show than they did throughout the whole book series. So promoting them more makes sense regarding this matter. Even if the show is as successful as it is right now because of Malec, it is not the only reason.

And honestly? I take every promo video with no or barely any Malec when I can watch the episode and still get surprised in the end. I actually enjoyed 2x11 way more than 2x01 where we pretty much knew the whole episode before it even aired. Because right now? We have no idea where they are going with Malec in 2b and I don’t know about you, Anon, but I actually enjoy this a lot.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that if they are using their cash cow Malec like this, they at least need to deliver properly. And not come up with the bs they did in 2a (2x07 I am looking at you!) and being all surprised that the Malec fandom is pissed when you just baited them. Like, you don’t need to be a genius to get…. hello? Malec is way more popular than f.e. C/lace? I mean… don’t even try to argue here.

"How about something warm? It'll help you sleep." With Sastiel??? Or just normal Sam and Cas interactions if you don't ship them. Thank you, sweetie :) // @fanficsandfluff

“How about something warm? It’ll help you sleep.”

(Of course I’ll write Sastiel! Honestly I ship everything and everyone (until it starts getting freaky lol))

Sam stepped out of the bathroom, ruffling his hair with a thick, fluffy towel to dry it. Throwing his head back, he smoothed the wet strands down and smiled when he wandered into the living area to see a familiar, Angel-shaped blob curled up on the sofa. He walked up behind and leaned against the back of the couch, bending forward to press a sweet kiss to Cas’ blanket-covered head.

“How’s it going?” Sam asked, winding around the sofa and sitting on the arm next to Cas.

He had wrapped himself in their comforter, curled in a little ball with just his face peeping out to watch a grainy DVD copy of ‘The Little Mermaid’ on the TV. Dean had came home one day with a crate of movies, having raided a nearby thrift store (‘It was $20 for the whole case, Sammy! How could I say no?’). Most were cowboy films (his guilty pleasure), but a couple of Disney classics had snuck their way in. Cas, who was ever eager to expand his knowledge of pop culture since Metatron’s little ‘spell’, was now hooked. Sam had lost count of the amount of movie nights he’d spent watching Cas’ cute little ‘hypnotised’ face as he studied the princess of choice on screen, rather than focusing on the actual movie. It made the dull experience a lot more bearable.

“Mm?” Cas mumbled rubbed his eyes with one hand, yawning softly. “Yes, I’m fine…” He said, his lids beginning to droop.

Sam softened his face. “You look tired; Ariel not cutting it tonight?”

“No, I’m enjoying the movie.” Cas said, his voice thick with weariness as he fumbled under his blankets to find the remote. “I suppose I am a little tired, though.”

“It’s getting late anyway, why don’t you come to bed with me?” Sam said, settling back on the arm of the chair and placing a hand around Cas’ far shoulder.

“I don’t think I can…”

Sam frowned. “Why not?”

Cas struggled to find the words to describe his dilemma. “I’m… I’m tired, but I’m finding it difficult to sleep. I do not wish to make you uncomfortable by staying awake until the early hours of dawn whilst you rest. Dean previously mentioned that it was ‘creepy’.”

Sam chuckled softly. “Ignore Dean, he’s just being a jerk. I know how you feel. That’s normal, sometimes, and there’s stuff you can do to fix it.”

“Like what?” Cas looked up to his boyfriend.

How about something warm?” Sam suggested. “Do you want a glass of milk? It’ll help you sleep.”

Cas frowned, his eyes squinting in the way Sam found impossibly endearing. “I don’t understand, how will a glass of warm milk help me to fall asleep?”

Sam shrugged his shoulders. “Beats me, man. Something to do with the amino acids? I don’t know, we touched on it back in college.” He rose from his seat and padded barefoot over to the crappy motel fridge, grabbing the milk carton and pouring some into a cup, shoving it in the microwave to heat up.

Cas waited patiently, pushing the blanket off of his head and allowing it to drape around his shoulders. He crossed his legs and rested back into the sofa cushions, focusing back on the movie. Sam came walking back over with his milk, this time sitting next to Cas.

“Careful, it’s still pretty hot,” He said, handing it to Cas. The Angel took the mug in his hands, staring into the steaming liquid. He wrapped his long, slender fingers around the warming ceramic. Surprisingly, even to touch it felt soothing. Gingerly, he brought it to his mouth and took a sip.

“… Is it okay?” Sam asked, unsuccessfully stifling a bemused smile.

Cas’ lips curled a little at the edges and he nodded, taking a longer sip. Sam giggled at his milk-mustache but allowed him to finish the glass. Cas set it down and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

“Feeling sleepy yet?” Sam threw an arm around the back of the sofa, watching him closely.

Cas had his pondering face on (the one Dean crudely claimed made him look constipated).

“… A little, I suppose. More so than befo-…” He was interrupted by a yawn, making Sam laugh.

“Looks like it’s working,” He said, his eyes brightening as an idea hit him. “But if not, I know something else warm that might work.”

Cas looked up curiously. “What is it?”

He felt his cheeks pinking when Sam’s arms wrapped around his frame and pulled him nearly into his lap, cuddling him. He held the Angel closely, letting Cas settle and find a comfortable position, before pushing the blankets down from his shoulders and rucking his shirt up a little behind him. Cas frowned at first, but then let out a quiet, happy sigh as Sam began rubbing his palm up and down the length of Cas’ back, working out any little knots of tension the day’s activities has wound up.

Cas could feel a safe, comforting, warm glow stirring inside of him. It was nothing, as a human, he had ever felt before. He likened it to the feeling of his old Grace; soothing and familiar. Nonetheless, what Sam was doing was very enjoyable, and before he knew it his eyes were growing heavy again. He wanted to make a joke about the little snowman he’d seen in another Disney movie, and how he enjoyed being hugged also, but he was too relaxed to bother speaking.

“Is it working?” Sam whispered softly a few minutes into the back rub, trying not to disturb the peaceful ambiance he had created.

Cas’ eyes had slid shut, a tiny smile curling his lips. He made little blissful noises in reply, snuggling into Sam’s chest further.

Sam smiled wider. “I’ll take that as a yes?” Cas hummed again, staying put. Sam smirked. His fingers trailed down to Cas’ sides and began scribbling lightly.

Cas immediately squirmed and started giggling, sliding down to try and move away from the touch. Sam’s fingers only followed, scribbling faster until he ended up laying in Sam’s lap, beginning to laugh properly as he tickled him. Cas batted feebly at his hands, now too tired to protect himself.

“Nohohoho! It wahahahas workihihing!” Cas giggled, jamming his arms against his sides weakly in a poor attempt to block Sam’s prodding fingers.

“C’mon, you can put up a better fight than that!” Sam taunted, using one hand to wiggle into Cas’ belly like a claw. “Let’s see if we can tire you out instead…”

Cas could only curl in on himself, wriggling around on Sam’s lap as his laughter grew more high-pitched. His fingers were hitting all the clusters of nerves hiding around his toned stomach muscles with terrifying precision, but it was never too intense. Just enough to pleasantly elevate his mood, and oddly enough Sam’s as well. When he had asked why he tickled him so often, Sam replied with something along the lines of how Cas’ laughter was ‘so deliciously sweet that he just couldn’t help himself’.

Cas was flattered, and a little flustered, but never complained again when Sam tickled him (partially because it made him happy, and also because Cas didn’t mind it that much either), but he didn’t have time to remember all of those little moments for how much their current tickle fight was tiring him out. Unfortunately so, considering how much they both seemed to enjoy it.

Gradually, after trying out some of Cas’ other spots, Sam’s fingers came to a halt, resting gently on the curve of his waist. He pressed his hands into the dip with a little more pressure than he was just using to soothe the post-tickling sensations creeping around under the Angel’s skin. Cas’ giggles came breathily, rolling in little groups.

Sam smiled adoringly. “Don’t tell me that hasn’t tired you out, now?”

Cas bit his grin as he came down from the laughter-high. “Ihihi… I am now sufficiently tired, I believe…”

“Good,” Sam moved a hand to tangle in Cas’ dark, messy hair. “See if you can try and get some rest now.” He pressed a soft kiss to his Angel’s forehead, lowering the volume on their TV and turning it back on.

Cas smiled, closing his eyes and allowing himself to soak in the heavy fatigue, barely noticing when Sam pulled their comforter up to his shoulders. He kept one hand beneath the blankets, rubbing wide circles across the plane of Cas’ back. One last sigh of content left his parted lips before sleep took over.

I'm sorry but I'm one of those people who don't seem to enjoy the movie Tarzan as much :/ Can you please explain why you think it's a masterpiece? I'm interested in knowing why you believe that, because I always agree with your insight on everything☺️

hey no need to apologise, everyone’s entitled to their opinions and sometimes we just don’t gel with movies or books, it’s no big deal!! thank you for being so polite and for asking this, though, i really appreciate your kind words!!!

reasons why i am trash for disney’s tarzan:

  • the SOUNDTRACK. phil collins, certified pop legend, just bringing the perfect mix of rhythmic little tunes and emotional ballads and uplifting lyrics that simultaneously move the story along and get stuck in your head
  • also mark mancina is a genius honestly the score for tarzan is so beautiful, the motif for jane is one of my favourite things in the world. the score has such a unique sound and it sets the scene so perfectly and hits every emotional beat!!
  • the animation!!!! did you know that they created a brand new animation system called deep canvas for this movie?? a whole brand new system!! from scratch!!! it allows 2d characters to move through a 3d world, which is how they got the awesome effects of tarzan sliding along tree branches and swinging on vines to work so well. pay special attention to the backgrounds and you can see how many layers there are in every scene, it really does look like a proper jungle with different levels of foliage and shadow and god it’s a work of art

BUT here’s the best part - he oversaw his animation from france, where he was meant to be on a sort of year long sabbatical from the disney company but loved the story and character so much he decided to do it anyway
  • MEANWHILE all the other supervising animators (including the incredible ken duncan, animator for jane porter [also meg from hercules]) were back in california. they had to collaborate across timezones and continents to create scenes where their characters interacted, and look at what an amazing job they did!!!

  • tarzan’s parents are two of the best looking characters ever animated by disney and they’re only in the movie for like five minutes what a waste

  • also he’s pretty hot ngl

Zouis love spending time together

L/arry and Z/iam might be real, or any other pairing for that matter. But as a Zouis-shipper there is one thing that I find it odd that no other shippers notice or take seriously. I have read a lot from a lot of different shippers, and especially when it comes to L/arry a big question is: But when do they spend time together? And how do they manage to keep the relationship going when they can’t be together properly? Especially since Harry “lives” in LA. A lot of people bring up that long-distance work and that they can in fact be together more often than we think, we just don’t get to see it. But it’s here that for me Zouis gets in the way of other pairings. Because Zouis just seem to be together all the time… And this is something I’ve also seen many recently commenting on as a “smokescreen” or promoting Zouis and that it really is a “fake relationship/friendship” to make people not notice the absence of L/arry. I find this very insulting honestly, because even with all the troubles lately, Zouis has always seemed genuine. Even from the start. SO, I felt the need to ask this question back. WHEN exactly is L/arry and Z/iam together when Zouis basically spend all their time in each other’s personal space?

This is going to be a  masterpost about all the time Zouis actually spend together.

First the obvious… The things we get to see, when they are working.

Open letter to Taylor Swift

Dear @taylorswift,

I’m writing you this open letter to talk to you about how fan made videos and fan vlogs are continuously being taken down on YouTube for containing copyrighted content from your music videos, as well as live footage from your tours.

Now, I know that it’s your legal team handling everything and not you personally. And that is exactly why I wanted to reach out to you about this subject matter in the first place, because I strongly believe you’re not even aware it’s happening to this extent. Don’t get me wrong, I understand certain content needs to be protected because it’s trademarked and there are rude people in the world who make profit off of content that you have legal ownership of.

But I just want you and your legal team to understand that’s not our aim with uploading these videos we make. We make these videos for fun to share with other fans and friends who will get excited over them with us, as well as in the hopes you may see them one day. We don’t make them for profit. You have stated yourself that the thing you love the most about your fans is that we’re original and imaginative; you’ve said you love seeing everything we get up to with our lives and seeing all of our creativity…

But our creativity is being limited and constricted; the documentation of our lives is being concealed from you, as we’re unable to upload it and share it with you because of it being removed by your legal team. We always make sure to include disclaimers stating that it is just a fan video, we own nothing, and no copyright infringement is intended. We put in bold that all content belongs to its original owners and all rights are reserved to the respectful parties such as yourself, the record label, the director, the producers, the editors etc. But they still get taken down and it feels extremely unfair. Especially because there are a multitude of other fandoms in which this doesn’t seem to happen to.

Take the Supernatural fandom, for example. All the cast and crew enjoy seeing what their fans create so much, they actually hold ‘fan-made video competitions’ at almost all of their conventions. They share the YouTube links to said fan-made videos, supporting them and praising them - I am in no way saying you don’t support your fans or anything of the sort; you have given to us graciously and done so, so much for all of us. I am also aware that in the past you have also shared videos your fans have created, and still continue to do so - but my whole aim of this open letter, is to bring to your attention that at the rate your legal team are going, you’re not going to have anything original, creative, or imaginative by your fans to view and enjoy.

There will be no more vlogs of your fans attending your tours, showing you the behind the scenes footage of the experience they had that you loved so much when Karlie showed you hers. There will be no more fan-made music videos or parody videos that are well thought out with strong attention to detail for you to share with your friends and family. There will be no more of your fans digital creativity for you to share with the rest of the world.

I know you can’t control every aspect of your business, and as I stated above, I understand why there are copyright infringement laws put in place. All I ask is that us fans are given a little leeway when it comes to uploading fan-made music/parody videos and vlogs with footage from your music videos and live shows in them.

Making fan videos can take a lot of work; the time and effort put into editing takes a lot of dedication and so much thought and detail goes into them. I’ve seen so many amazing fan videos - not to mention been extremely proud of some of my own - that don’t deserve to be taken down and slapped with a copyright infringement notice threatening to remove our YouTube accounts, when we have done the right thing and put in writing that the videos aren’t made for profit, we own none of the content and all footage belongs to it’s original owners.

In conclusion, I appreciate all the hard work that goes into making your music videos - from the producer hiring key personnel and arranging distributors, the director scouting locations and controlling the artistic and dramatic aspects, you filming your scenes, the costume department and the team in post production (who don’t get enough recognition because editing is fricken hard) - and I’m not trying to take away from all of that time, effort, dedication and hard work of those people. I just want us fans to be able to create something we’re proud of - that we think you’ll be proud of - and be able to share it with yourself and other fans.

I love you so much, Taylor. Everything you’ve ever done for not only us fans, but for musicians and artists of every form everywhere, is amazing and has always come from a place in your heart. I’m not 100% certain you’re even able to do anything to make it so we’re able to upload fan-made music videos/parodies etc but if it is possible at all, it would honestly not just mean the world to me… But to all of us who get inspired by you and your music to create something beautiful to share with you.

Thank you for reading this. I love you.
Love, Natalee

Frozen pissed me off and I'm going to explain some of why, and my take on how the film could have been improved +pictures!

Okay so I was sort of off-put by the art design in the advertising since it’s so… blah, but I realized I needed to try to put that aside and come to terms with the fact that Disney doesn’t make really art-designy movies anymore and it’s unfair of me to hate on it for that. So I decided to go check it out, after hearing it was good.

Um.

Good things! The entire first act is excellent. Poignant, effective, and interesting. The songs were decent, though most kind of forgettable and one the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my life, but whatever. They did what they needed and I felt they were appropriate. The humor succeeded more often than not. The snowman was unnecessary, but… I didn’t mind him. These are the normal sort of Disney gripes that happen all the time when one has a film like this and wants more out of it. Okay, whatever. You can’t expect anything else from Disney.

Nah, that’s not what I hated so much.

Spoiler-free version: the film talks a lot about true love but never established its characters, plot, or importance, so the whole thing is a lot of uphill wandering to a climax that does nothing because there are no emotions in the movie, no rising and falling action, nothing. This movie is like a sugar cookie, lots of sparkle on top and nothing inside but over-sweetness and lies.

Spoilers under the cut, and my version:

So I saw Captain America: Civil War, and overall, it was an enjoyable moviegoing experience! It’s honestly been years since I had any huge feelings about the MCU, so I wasn’t expecting much out of the movie, but there were parts of it I liked a lot.

However, there was one thing that I did have intensely negative feelings about.

So let's talk about criticism.

I mean, let’s actually really talk about it.

I’ve been struggling to come to terms with my feelings about it lately. Partially because of my own personal shit, and partially because certain subjects seem to be bubbling up more on tumblr and around the greater Internet area.

Criticism is good. I know that. Criticism is immensely, immeasurably valuable. Criticism is the second-best tool for growing as an artist in any medium, the first being the actual act of creation. Criticism has to exist for art to mean anything.

But it’s also pointless, sometimes.

I can look at a work and see that it is imperfect. I can point out all the flaws and untangle all the loose threads (and there’s always loose threads) until the whole thing unravels if I want to. Or I can look at a work, take it for what it is and not what it could be, and evaluate it based on that.

Roger Ebert once said, “A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it.” Like any good quote from a famous person, it means a few things, first and foremost that execution of an idea is more important than its originality. But it also means that you can’t look at a work of Victorian romance in which some people happen to die and deride it for not being a hard-boiled murder-mystery with some romantic elements. A movie, or a book or a game or a drawing or a sweater, should be judged based on what it is and not what it isn’t.

I’ve always known the first interpretation. Lately, though, I’ve tried to take the latter to heart. It’s been… difficult.

I mean, look, I know who I am, and I know what I like. And on a certain level, I can recognize quality. So I can know something is good, or a good example of its type, and also know it’s not for me. But sometimes… I don’t know. You run into people adoring things I find ludicrous, taking up arms to rally to the defense of something that doesn’t really deserve it, simply because it has some element that appeals to them—whether it’s a woman with a narrative arc or an all-female cast or a subversion of some dumb trope or a celebration of other tropes or a continuation of characters long-since mined for all their worth. I understand the impulse. But I don’t truly comprehend it.

I’ve seen this a fair bit lately, particularly on tumblr—people celebrating or championing films or comics or games or even pieces of fanfiction that are decidedly imperfect, usually in technical or esoteric ways that only seem to bother me. Maybe they wouldn’t if I was a woman, or gay, or both. Someone born somewhere else, raised differently, who grew up reading or watching or playing different things. But as valuable as walking in another person’s shoes is, at the end of the day, you are you, and your own self has to have its own value too, right? At least to you.

So I sit by and watch people get excited. I see gifsets posted for movies I don’t like, photosets of actors I find mediocre or overexposed, long and bizarre meta rants that seem ludicrous, and excerpts from fanfiction I’m not the least bit interested in. I sit, and I watch, and I understand, and I don’t say anything.

After all, what good is there in saying anything? What’s the point? You can’t change someone’s mind about something they love. You can’t point out flaws in something that speaks to someone. Even if you could sit down with the creators themselves, locked in an empty room for twenty four hours straight, you couldn’t convince them they were doing it all wrong.

Because it wasn’t for you. Not really. It was for the people who liked it. It was for people for whom there isn’t anything else that speaks to them. Whatever technical criticisms you have are almost meaningless. Perhaps they always were—perhaps the artist intended them that way. Perhaps it is, quite simply, not to your liking.

Of course there’s a line to be drawn somewhere—one can only say that so many times for so many different reasons before it starts to sound like an excuse to avoid a conversation—but more often than not, it’s the truth. The world doesn’t revolve around you, after all.

So I sit, and I don’t comment. I don’t reblog, reply, or even click the little heart. I just look at it, shrug, and turn to something else. Something I enjoy.

I’m honestly not sure if that’s the right approach or not, at least with regards to amateur artists. I think it’s insulating, and reinforces certain behaviors. But I also think any small, tight-knit community gets that way, regardless of the nature of the association. Even if you try to engage at every turn, to pull no punches and be as ruthless as possible, after a while all you’re doing is reinforcing other, different behaviors. At a certain point, people have to break out. Try something new. Or someone new.

But then, maybe some people need that, and some people don’t. Maybe some people don’t actually want to grow or change at all. I can respect that. If someone possess a strong awareness of who they are and why they do what they do? Maybe they’re done growing. Maybe that’s just who they are, and you can like it or leave it.

I don’t know. Part of me says that refusing to engage isn’t constructive. Another part says that not everything needs to be. I’ve thought about it a lot, and I keep going around in circles.

I guess that’s what blogs are for, though. Right?

Hi. So I recently just saw Star Wars: the Force Awakens and I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I was wondering if you could tell me about the ship Reylo. I don't ship it too much but it is like a minor ship of mine (real minor). What about the chance that they are cousins? Do you ship them with anyone else? Your blog is really eye opening, I love it ❤️.

Hello anon! Thank you so much for the love! *hugs*

I’m very happy that you enjoyed The Force Awakens! It’s definitely one of my favs of all time. One of my favorite things about it being Reylo. This ship…I honestly can’t even start to put into words why I love this ship, but I’ll try!

Now I don’t get asks too often, so I come dressed to impress. Hold on to your hat, this post is gonna be kinda long! (my apologies)

I’ll address your question of shipping them with other people first:

Going into the movie I had no preconceived ideas where Kylo Ren was concerned. I had never really given Adam Driver any attention (ha! that’s funny now), and when I found out he would be playing the “bad guy” in the movie my thoughts were pretty much like “Huh, this guy looks interesting. I hope he’s good.” and that was that.

For Rey, I was a hardcore Damerey (PoexRey) shipper. Didn’t know why, I just liked them together (the video of Daisy and Oscar singing did me in). They have great chemistry.

Coming out of the movie, it was quite honestly like “Finn and Poe who?!” (where shipping is concerned, not them as characters. I love them!). So no I don’t ship them with anyone else. I may get a wild hair every now and then and like/reblog something Damerey but not often.

Now for the question that seems to be on everyone’s minds (or not a question if you’re one of those people who apparently have magically been blessed with a copy of the script, and seem to already know for sure what’s going on…lucky bastards) What are the chances they’re related?

Let’s be real here, we have NOT been given confirmation of Rey’s parentage. People may try to argue this. But it just isn’t true. This subject is so covetted and top secret, we won’t even find it out until Episode IX!

Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t see them spending aaall that time and energy on a plot twist that has already happened once before ( à la Luke and Leia). It’s lazy as hell. I’d like to give the writers a bit more credit than that.

I’ll go through some evidence.

1) If she was their child, I’m preeetty sure either Han or Leia would have figured out who Rey was in TFA. She was also old enough, I think she would know what her parents looked like (unless she was mind wiped??). Better yet, I think they all would have had to be mind wiped to not make that connection.

Leia is also force sensitive. She would have been able to pick up on the connection right away. Some people debate on the hug at the end of the movie. I just took it as “hey, you’ve been through some really shitty things, I’ve been through some really shitty things..I’m gonna give you a hug. I think we both need it.” Was it a motherly-ish hug? Yeah, but you can be motherly without being someone’s mom. Leia is a mother after all.

Another thing on this point, I think it would have been extremely crappy of the writers to have Rey spend all that time with Han if he was supposed to be her father, only to have him killed off at the end without it being revealed? Wouldn’t it have made much more of an impact for her to find the family she longed for, only for it to be taken away?

2) Rey is a Skywalker because she’s Luke’s daughter theory. Ahh yes, my favorite of the overly predictable, yet unsupported theories. Tell me, do you think Luke Skywalker (the last of the freaking Jedi) would just dump his child on a desert planet, leave her as a slave to possibly starve to death, while he pulls on his Hawaiian shirt and heads to Jedi Exile Island? No. After the events of RotJ, Luke had been a bit busy searching for force-sensative kids and establishing a new temple to train them. When he was supposed to have the time to do-the-do and get someone preggers I have no idea.

Also there’s this:

He’s looking at Rey here. This doesn’t scream “My long lost daughter! My child!” this is more like “Who the fuck are you? I’m too old for this shit. So done.” or worst of all, he’s angry with her about something. Maybe he does know her, but not in a good way. Rey’s past is a mystery, there could be a ton of explanations; but Rey being a Skywalker seems like the least likely of all.

Now I’m probably going to rub a lot of people wrong by saying this, but if they are in fact cousins, I’ll still ship it. Cousin marriage isn’t actually all that uncommon. Sure it’s not practiced as much anymore, but it was a big thing back in the day (especially with Royalty for instance). I’m a huge history/period film lover, so someone being into their cousin doesn’t phase me much. I’ve shipped worse ok? Seriously, not a problem for me.

(Personally my favorite theory is that Rey is a Kenobi. Here’s a great post about it here: http://ninjajedihobbit.tumblr.com/post/136719576505/proof-rey-is-a-kenobi-which-also-means-reylo-can)

Now for the question. I feel like this is going to be the hardest thing for me to articulate, without it just sounding like a bunch of babble. Here goes. Why do I love Reylo?

(don’t know the owner of this gif but I freaking love it)

Kylo Ren and Rey are the perfect mix of light and darkness. The deliciously forbidden fruit you need to take a bite of. Enticing. Bittersweet.

They’re like Romeo and Juliet, rolled in Beauty and the Beast, seasoned with Hades and Persephone, a dash of Phantom of the Opera, and Wuthering Heights sprinkled on top…need I go on?

This isn’t a fluffy love story filled with heart doodles on notebooks, and star filled eyes. This type of love story is raw, it’s real, it holds nothing back. It’s got it’s fair share of pain; but oh god does it have the most fulfilling kind of understanding, and soul cleansing acceptance.

Now I’m gonna tell you my particular brand of love isn’t going to be for everyone. For me, love, true love is when you and the other person just operate on the same plain of existence. When your inner demons recognize theirs, a level of communication, of belonging that can’t be described is established. It’s not that you enable each other, you just have the capability to understand them.

Something in you that just screams “I know you, and you know me; more than anyone else ever could.”

(don’t know who did this either but thank you!)

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” - Wuthering Heights (couldn’t resist a good quote)

That soul-to-soul recognition is there for them, even if they don’t know it yet.

He’s supposed to be the “villain” of the story here. But if you take the time to dig deeper you’ll soon realize that while he may have done some terrible things, made horrible decisions, he can’t just simply be cast as “the bad guy”. He struggles constantly. He says it himself, he’s being torn apart. As for those inner demons I mentioned earlier, the biggest demon of all for Kylo Ren is Snoke. Snoke invaded the mind of baby Ben Solo, and like a predator groomed him to be who he is.

Imagine what it’s like having someone in your head for as long as you can remember. Whispering in your ear, influencing your thoughts to the point where you don’t even know where you start and the other person begins. Welcome to Ben Solo’s life.

On the other hand you have Rey. This is a girl with plenty of demons of her own. She was abandoned by whoever her “family” was to spend a terrible life on Jakku. Her very existence until meeting BB-8/Finn had been full of nothing but loneliness, waiting, and starvation. However, she has the key ingredient that makes her so truly special, she has hope. It drives her forward, it makes her refuse to give up. Despite every curveball that’s thrown her way, she takes it, learns from it, betters herself in some way. That’s why I love her.

Kylo Ren has lost all of his hope.

During their confrontation, Han says “Snoke is using you for your power. When he gets what he wants, he’ll crush you! You know it’s true.” To which Kylo replies, “It’s too late…” He’s essentially saying he’s thought about coming back. Back to the light, back to his family..but he’s come to the conclusions he’s gone too far for that to be possible. He’s lost every bit of his hope.

I love Reylo because I believe Rey will show Kylo Ren how to hope again. That it’s not too late. He can be saved. Will it be easy? Hell no. But I’m a big believer in the “nothing worthwhile is ever easy” theory.

No matter how this plays out, I truly believe that Ben Solo and Rey’s fates are intwined.

(also see this post which I really like on why this person finds Reylo romantic to them: http://a-shipper-despite-herself.tumblr.com/post/136555817569/why-reylo-is-romantic-to-me)

Well anon, I want to thank you if you were actually able to stick with me to the end of this absurdly long post. I hope I was able to make at least a tiny bit of sense, or clear up some of the questions you have.

Feel free to drop me an ask or a message (whether anon or not) any time you like!

What did you think of Dan's live show? I need your thoughts <3

I absolutely loved this show. LOVED IT. Along with Phil’s last show (I didn’t get a chance to talk about it cause finals are killing me) it was probably one of my more favorite younows in a long time.

This one felt so much more open and candid to me. We all know Dan struggles with sharing opinions and worries a lot about the way people are perceiving him and how he is coming across. The recognition of that (namely at the very end of the show) felt so real and honest. It didn’t feel as much like DINOF or a persona, it felt like Dan Howell in that moment. A somewhat vulnerable Dan letting us in on an insecurity and some of his fears about pleasing everyone and the balance between being “entertaining” and being himself. I always go on about how I wish he wouldn’t censor himself as much and would just talk about what he pleases, so his candidness about this dilemma was incredibly interesting to me. Kind of ironic that listening to him waffle on about feeling concerned that he’s not “entertaining" was the most entertained I’ve been in one of his shows in a while. I just find him the most endearing when he’s less guarded and more upfront with what’s on his mind.

“Weird. Live shows are weird. I’m weird in live shows. I’m weird. You’re weird. We’re all weird. Everything’s weird. Should I worry about having to entertain people? Are these live shows supposed to be entertaining? Or should I be as boring as I want for….it’s the same thing, you know, I talk about politics and people are all BORED. I do have a…kind of responsibility to entertain people slightly because you’re spending your time…with me. And then I’m sure lots of you just want me…‘just be yourself’…I think that’s important. Just do what you want, Dan. Thank you.” “Sorry for being weird. Don’t judge how I act or what I say…it’s just a weird situation.”

I need you, but you don't need me - Joshifer One Shot

Well, now I did it too. Those two are basically killing me so I decided to give in and write a Joshifer one shot. I hope you all enjoy it and leave me feedback! As always, thank you to my beta Laura!

Josh’s pov

I am just getting comfortable again, when my phone starts ringing for what has to be the 5th time now. For god’s sake, who is trying to get a hold of me so desperately at 2am in the morning?

Sighing heavily, I drag myself out of my bed and over to my drawer where I left my phone so I could finally get more than 5 hours of sleep a night, but it seems like someone is determined to destroy that plan.

I don’t even bother looking at the caller ID, it’s way too late for even caring about things like that. “Yes, hello? I just hope you have a damn good reason for calling me at this time of the day, or should I say night.”

For some seconds there is complete silence on the other side of the line, when suddenly a quiet sob interrupts it. “Sorry.. I-“, her voice breaks, but I immediately recognize it, of course I do. How could I not? “Jen? Shit, I’m sorry, if I had known it was you I wouldn’t have been so rude.”

Again, I am only met with silence. “Jen? Jennifer? What happened? Talk to me please, you are starting to freak me out.” I try to keep my voice steady, but I know that something has to be really wrong.

so everyone knows about the gay chicken trope in fics right? well I happen to love it so last night when I was falling asleep watching the thanksgiving things to do I was a bit sidetracked, thinking about geoff, ray, ryan, and gavin filming themselves doing stupid shit as they do. which so happened to be gay chicken or something similar to what people do when its late at night and the sexual tension in the room is high as fuck

So this somehow ended up as a fic. There’s nsfw fun times ahead which I promised the tag so uhh.. enjoy

Also if you actually get off to this, I salute you, but I’m not writing more for now

Out Shine Nothing - Requested (Michael)

This was requested by Anon (Your on tour with our Bf Michael and he is so busy he forgets your birthday until Ash gives you a small bunch of flowers not wanting to up show Michael but just be nice and doesn’t realise Michael forgot until he gets a bit jealous wondering why ash gave you flowers. Thank You :3) ENJOY!!!

‘So what did Michael get you?’ Ashton asks handing you cute bunch of blue flowers, you’re not a flower kind of girl so you don’t know what they are but them a lovely and smell amazing.

'Thanks Ash’ you give him a hug, 'it’s just a little extra, they aren’t the best I didn’t want to out shine Michael’ he kisses your cheek as you pull away.

'I added it on’ you smile raising your wrist a little to show Ashton the charm he gave your this morning attached to your bracelet, you and Ashton have been fried a since you were thirteen and for your fourteenth birthday your mum got you a charm bracket and Ashton has bought you a new charm every year since then. He holds the new charm in his gunfire tops and smiles.

'I think I picked well this year’ he nods a little, proud of himself and you laugh.

'You always pick well ash, I love them all’ you smile down at your charm and then look back up, Ashton blushing slightly, ‘Ashy, you’re going a little red’ you tease, he tries to glare at you but fails laughing instead and he grabs you tickling you a little, you can’t get him off so wrap your arms around his neck and hold yourself close to him, until his moving finger tips stop and his long arms wrap about you. ‘Happy Birthday’ he whispers. ‘Thanks Ash, I love you’ you tell him and he pulls away, you both look over to the other boys that are busy recording and then Ashton grabs your hand. ‘Let’s get coffee’ he tells you as he pulls you out of the building and you slide your arm into his.

‘So what did Michael get you?’ he asks, ‘Wait! Do I want to know?’ he looks at you from the corner of his eyes and you laugh a little at his concern.

‘He didn’t get me anything, I think he forgot’ you tell him, you try not to make a big thing, if Ashton saw how upset you were about it he would go crazy at Michael so you played it down. ‘It’s no big deal, you guys are so busy I’m surprised you remembered’ you add.

‘What a fucking arsehole, he seriously forgot. Dick. Honestly, I was gonna ask him what he was getting you but then I remember last year he went crazy at me because he thought I was trying to interfere so I didn’t mention it this year, I can’t believe he forgot. Well we will do something, we can go to a club or for something to eat, and it’s up to you. You’re the birthday girl. And we won’t tell Michael until tomorrow and then he will feel so bad he will spoil you for a week’ Ashton screams and you laugh, liking the idea.

‘Sounds great to me. How about movie and meal?’ you ask.

‘We will eat too much popcorn during the movie we won’t enjoy our meal’ he tells you, you nod. ‘True, what about bowling an a meal…no no no, I have something better, you remember for my sixteenth you took me bounce world?’ you asks.

‘To remind you that you were still able to be a kid’ he chuckles.

‘Yeah, well when we got here, we drove past a huge trampling place, let’s go there’ you smile and Ashton laughs agreeing.

____________________________

‘Me and Ashton are going out’ you tell Michael as you pull up your favourite jeans, you have packed a pair sweats for the trampolines. Although you and Ashton had agreed to just act normal with Michael when you got back from the coffee shop he was being off with you, he has hardly spoke to you all day. He is lying on his bed, head phones around his neck.

‘Why? I thought you would have at least spent the night with me after swanning off with Ashton all day’ his voice is harsher than usual, you know he is pissed off about something, this is his way of acting when he is angry, he sits and listens to music and speak like a spoilt brat, you’d be worried something is wrong if it wasn’t for the fact he had no reason to be annoyed with you, when he was the one who forgot your birthday.

‘I haven’t been with Ashton all day, we went out for coffee, and anyway he is my best friend, I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to spend time with my friends’ you grab your purse and leave the tiny bedroom on the bus.

‘(Y/N) we haven’t finished talking’ Michael shouts following you out of the room, the boys all turn to look at you. ‘Yes we have’ is all you say, waving to Calum and Luke and jumping out of the bus, Ashton right behind you.

You and Ashton got back about twenty minutes ago but the other three weren’t here so you decided to put on a film, you and Ashton grabbing a blanket and getting comfortable, and you microwaved some popcorn even though you had just ate a huge meal. Half way through the film the boys wonder in, you and Ashton too engrossed in the film, you raise the popcorn bowl, Luke got the idea as he took the bowl from you and sat down, Calum following. Five minutes later and you realise Michael didn’t sit down with you, so you slip out of the blanket and head to the bunks, Michael is lying on his, ear phones in. You slide in next to him, sitting up and when he doesn’t look at you, you rip an ear phone from him, making him look at you.

'What’s wrong?’ you ask, but your only reply is a scoff as Michael climbs over you to get of the bed. ‘Michael your acting like a fucking kid, what’s wrong?’ you patience wearing thin, you spin your legs over the bunk.

‘I thought you came on tour for me’ you scoff at his jealous words.

‘Is this because I spent a little time with Ashton’

‘You know, I always knew you liked him, how fucking romantic best friends falling in love’ he spits, you jump on the bunk, landing in the tiny walk way.

‘Your such a jealous prick, you know me and Ashton aren’t like that, we never have been’ but he just shakes his head, tuning away from you a little. ‘You’re so self-centred Michael’ this pisses him off like you wanted it to and he spin to look at you.

‘Don’t fucking dare, I’m not self-centred’ you growls, which only makes you raise a challenging eyebrow, ‘I saw you today in the studio, he gave you flowers, who randomly gives there best friend flowers?’ Michael’s voice is harsh, but you know he is really asking a question, why?

‘I’ll give you a clue Michael’ you straighten your face ‘Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday dear meee, Happy Birthday to me’ you sing more snap but it gets the point across as Michael’s face drops, his eyes widening a little ‘Like I said self-centred’ you turn and walk out, the three boys looking at you and you shake your head, letting out a huge breath of annoyance.

‘I’m gonna find a hotel to stay in. you guys want to come?’ you ask, Ashton is on his feet straight away, Calum and Luke following, they head to their suit cases and grab a couple of things throwing them into a duffel that Calum carried and the four of you headed out. On the way to the hotel Luke and Calum apologized over and over for forgetting your birthday and you explained over and over that you really don’t mind.

______________________________________

After all settling into your and Ashton room, you and the other boys pick a film from netflics to watch, your lying between Calum and Ashton under the blankets your cuddled into Ashton side with your legs over Calum, your feet just touching Luke’s leg who keeps flicking your feet as you touch him with a toe to annoy home. There is a knock at the door and you do your best to kick Luke.

‘You get it’ you smile at his as he leans forwards looking past Calum to you he glares for a second before sighing and getting out of the bed, heading for the door. Ashton pauses the film and Calum drops his head onto your shoulder. ‘You’re so cuddly’ he sighs as he wraps his arms around you. ‘Calum you fucking big lump get off’ Ashton moans as he starts to fall off the bed with both me and Calum’s weight on him and you laugh as Calum pushes onto you more, resulting in Ashton falling on the floor, you and Calum laughing. Luke wonders back in with Michael following him, Luke laughs seeing Ashton on the floor, but Michael just stares at you, you smile a little and he nods to the door, you step over Ashton and follow Michael into the corridor.

‘I’m so sorry’ he apologises as soon as you close the door behind you and you nod.

‘Michael its fine, to be honest I wasn’t even bothered about you forgetting, but then you started acting jealous over me spending time with Ashton.’

‘I was jealous, okay that’s normal for me to get jealous over my girlfriend spending time with other guys’ he defends and you shake your head.

‘No it’s not normal Michael, Ashton is my best friend, there is no need to be jealous and you know that, you know nothing will ever happen with me and Ashton. God you’re so infuriating’ you sigh and just watch him for a minute, his mouth opening and closing.

‘I’m sorry’

‘Yeah, you already said that Michael.’ You snap and he looks down for second, you feel a little back so sighing you let him off ‘Its fine, just apologise to Ash and promise not to be such a dick next time’ you tell him, he nods and steps forward, you press yourself into him and move a hand to his hair, you tug a little as your lips start moving together and his hand moves down to your bum.

‘Jesus Christ, you make up then?’ Calum asks as he opens the door, looking at you and Michael, you laugh a little moving out of Michael’s arms and nod. ‘Yeah pretty much’ you nod, ‘Getting some tonight guys’ Calum adds as you enter the room and he punches Michael’s upper arm and you laugh.

I really hope joker and harley are in the solo batman film. I'm trying to enjoy suicide squad as much as I can because I know that the solo harley movie is going to have harley x ivy in it, that makes me sad because I don't ship them.

Yeah, I’m really hoping so too. It would be a total waste for them to barely be in the DCEU at all. They’re The motherfucking Joker and Harley goddamn Quinn! They’re iconic! It would be a shame to see them waste such beloved and fan-favourite characters.

I’m still not 100% sure I believe that Harl/Ivy is going to become canon in Harley’s solo film. Will Ivy be in it? Well, yeah. I’m almost positive she will. She and Harley are best friends and their relationship- like Joker and Harley’s- is pretty iconic to the character. But I’m still on the fence about whether or not they’ll actually make them into a romantic couple straight away like that.

I honestly don’t have anything against Harley and Ivy as a couple. I don’t. I really don’t. I mean, sure, I dislike them in the New 52, but that’s because I hate the New 52 in general and I think they made their relationship way too cutesy and completely destroyed the characters. But in BTAS and even the Arkham games, I enjoy their dynamic quite a lot. When Ivy isn’t reduced to being a lovesick puppy who follows Harley around everywhere, she’s a super cool and badass lady.

But I don’t want them to immediately have them be a couple like they’ve suddenly been in love this entire time. That just wouldn’t make any sense whatsoever. I want them to be friends first. I want them to develop the relationship we all know from BTAS. I want them to actually meet and interact and JUST BE FRIENDS before they even think about being romantically involved (should they ever even take that step in the DCEU).

And not only that, but we have to remember that Joker is, in fact, still around. He and Harley are still madly in love. And regardless of what they try to do in Harley’s solo film, the two of them are obsessed with one another and clearly can’t live without each other. So it would make no sense for Harley to suddenly hate him and leave him for Ivy, or something. That would just be terrible continuity and complete fan-service. I’m sorry, but it’s true. To me, it only makes sense that as long as Joker and Harley are alive, they’re together.

I understand what you mean. But you also have to remember that Harl/Ivy as a pairing really isn’t as popular as it seems. If you were to go on the streets and ask random general movie audiences (who aren’t extreme comic book fans) to name one fact about Harley Quinn, I absolutely guarantee you that their answer would most likely be “she’s the Joker’s girlfriend.” Because that’s how she’s most commonly known, and how she’s always be known. I’m not saying she can’t be an independent character, but people have been waiting to see Harley alongside Joker on the big screen for YEARS now. And if it comes to either pleasing the 20% of people who so desperately want Harl/Ivy or pleasing the rest of the world who don’t, chances are, they’ll choose the latter. So don’t give up hope!

I finally saw batman v superman today and I really enjoyed it and I honestly don't think it deserves all the criticism it's getting and there are plenty of marvel movies that are way worse but don't seem to get hate for it like this movie is and I guess I'd like to know your opinion on it

Yay! I’m glad you liked it! I loved it and it was everything that i wanted.

At this point I would like to personally tell all those critics that wrote shitty reviews based on shitty reasons, to suck my asshole. The movie wasn’t 10/10 but it definitely warrants at least a 70/100 imo.

So my opinion on marvel movies:

The thing with marvel is that other than being a superhero movie it also falls into the comedy/adventure movie for me. It has a very obvious good guy and a very (poorly developed) obvious bad guy. The good guy needs to defeat the bad guy in some way (in this case usually in an action scene because superheroes). Along the way you probably have a love interest (that’s just a love interest) because reasons and probably the comic relief (if it isn’t already the Good Guy™, which general audiences ADORE lemme tell you). And because this is a superhero movie that marvel is doing, it has action scenes which aren’t bad, that’s their strong point. If you take everything out of context, their action scenes are probably the best thing about marvel movies. This whole formula was cute for the first few movies but after a while it’s like eating the same meal for a week. It gets boring.

I totally agree with you about “there are plenty of marvel movies that are way worse but don’t seem to get hate for it”, and here’s my opinion why:

Marvel has established what it’s gonna be and that they’re sticking their guns to it. They don’t want to be “dark” and “gritty” (and have well written characters too iguess whatever). They’re meant to be fun and entertaining and exciting. I was somewhat pleased with the first captain america movie but i think they went back to funny and generic™ idk. This goes back to my thoughts on marvel movies also being part of the comedy/adventure genre (more comedy than adventure lets be real here its marvel). Now lemme ask you, when you go into a comedy, do you go looking for a cinematic masterpiece? I don’t, if it makes me laugh okie doke thats cool. But even if a comedy didn’t make me laugh, i’m not gonna be pissed about it because it’s just a comedy movie after all what do you expect. I think most people at least subconsciously know this. They don’t go into a marvel movie looking for a cinematic masterpiece, so the critics don’t leave pissed. a part of me thinks Marvel knows this. They could literally have iron man shit pieces of metal and random romance (ohO!) and no one could really get ~that bothered by it. No one is gonna royally shit on a comedy movie. They’re just happy that they made money off of shitty fucking one liners, action porn, and an abused recycled formula for a movie. If marvel wants to keep doing this go ahead.

I personally have never been a marvel fan just because it wasn’t something I was surrounded by like DC was ( Teen Titans, Justice League, the various Batman films etc.) if anything I liked the X-Men but idk much about it anymore srry. The main reason Marvel pisses me off is when it’s compared to DC. also when i see whitewashing and all that crap too. And that’s where my next point and the last part of your ask pertains to.

My opinion on the BvS reviews:

I think Marvel for some goddamn reason has established to critics what a “Good Superhero” movie needs to be. Why? I have no fucking clue. I’d rather watch grass grow than finish watching that terrible film, Age of Ultron. I literally closed my laptop during a Iron Man and Hulk fight scene, I think? I know it was during a fight scene but i could honestly care less about which wonder bread was slapping which wonder bread tbh. I fell asleep during the winter soldier, i couldn’t. sorry bucky. I think the critics went in thinking like, “well we trashed Man of Steel, maybe they learned their lesson” and then Snyder and co. said “lmao suck our dicks here’s BvS” I’m so glad the dceu is the way it is, i get so invested in these characters and stories and we’re only at the second film omg. But a part of me felt that this movie was gonna be put on blast. It’s been getting critiqued for EVERY LITTLE THING since the first teaser dropped. and i read somewhere that critics just don’t like snyder for some reason idk why?? someone tell me pls. While some reviews had merit, some where just finding a reason to give it a 30/100. I refuse to believe Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is worth a 36% and BvS is a 29%. I don’t doubt sharknado’s score but BvS was not THAT bad. Really, critics?

ANYWAYS, sorry for my long ass essay of a post. I’ve been wanting to get this off my chest for weeks and your post was my gateway to do that, so thanks for sending me this ask <3 sorry if my grammar sucks and stuff just doesn’t make sense, i’m kinda in a rush. but anyways, these are just my opinions soooo if ur gonna send hate i’m gonna probably reply with a gif or something.

and the best thing y’all could do is encourage your friends and fam to see this movie as much as possible. critics are one thing but box office numbers are something else entirely. i think it’d really help out the dceu if they continue to rank in numbers !!!

I love gay things, movies, books, shows, you name it, but I am not actually that interested when it's lesbians. I've felt bad about that, since women get less representation especially mogai women so I should enjoy them. I just don't, and I think I know why now. I just can't relate, since I'm not a woman. I can't relate to the gay woman love. I feel awful about this, but honestly what should I do, I'm just not engaged in it, I'm not attracted to lesbians for obvious reasons.

I am guessing, based on what you say, that you are a man.

I have a theory about the reactions of people who have majority representation when viewing minority media.

As a white woman I was absolutely inundated with men in my media, tonnes of it, to dismiss all men-lead media would leave me with incredibly limited options as I grew up, so through sheer immersion the perspective of a man wasn’t hard for me to understand or relate to. Stand up comics, tv shows, movies, books, poems, video games and more all hammered into me a mainstream idea of what men think, want, care about, find funny etc etc

However, as a white woman when I did see women I was very used to them being white so the smaller amount of representation I did have was still very much still a reflection I could understand. My skin was everywhere, I was not pushed by the media to understand or relate to people of colour and their media became “other”. Movies, tv shows and other media that features predominantly POC characters are often marketed directly to those groups because there is little interest from white audiences. Sure we want to watch Chris Rock in a movie where he is the fast talking black guy in a sea of white faces, but we are not anywhere near as interested in seeing him with a black wife and children with an all black cast. Then it becomes a “black movie”.

There are of course exceptions, as I grew up I would hungrily consume anything starring Queen Latifah (even enough to sit through almost ALL of Chicago, which I hated btw) but that didn’t stop me from generally othering movies with an all black cast.

It’s ridiculous, black people are … people, their thoughts, feelings and experiences are, at their very core, incredibly relateable but that bias lingers, because media influence is a tricky thing to buck. I have known men who dismiss anything woman-led or woman-centric because they can’t relate to any of it, which is wholly ridiculous.

In your case I would presume that lesbian media is not relateable to you because you never really saw much of it. It’s not your experience (being a lesbian) so you don’t naturally gravitate towards that to fulfill a sense of representation and with nothing pressing you, you default lesbian media to the “other”. Even though lesbians are just people who experience the same basic thoughts, feelings and issues (aside from a few obvious differences) their media shouldn’t technically be any less relateable.

So that is my theory as to why you feel they are inherently unrelateable, but you asked me specifically what to do. There is no magic fix but, in my personal experience, acknowledging this bias and then engaging in immersion has been useful to counteract this bias. I don’t mean watch shite films for the sake of it, but find films you think you would enjoy if it were not lesbians and watch it, be open minded, focus on the emotions, allow yourself to relate to it over repeatedly viewing that kind of love and connection.

Maybe with time you will be able to see lesbian media as less of an “other” and just one part of the multi-faceted human experience that you can view and enjoy, good luck.
