The dysfunctional family has been an ever-present image in popular culture for decades: the battling husband and wife flanked by their bratty children are perhaps most frequently employed on garishly trite television sitcoms. In the movies, the gloves are ripped away and the reality shines on what is more often than not left unexposed in the darkness. What’s revealed seems to irrefutably prove that Tolstoy was absolutely correct when he wrote: “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

The most dysfunctional families in cinema.

(via The Bottled Wasp):  Białystok Ghetto Uprising: The second Jewish uprising following Warsaw, wass initiated 73 years ago today by the Antyfaszystowska Organizacja Bojowa (Anti-fascist Militant Organisation) as regiments of the German SS reinforced by Ukrainian, Byelorussian, and Latvian auxiliaries tried to carry out the final liquidation of the Ghetto. During the night [Aug. 16-17] several hundred Polish Jews start an armed uprising against the troops carrying out liquidation of the aktion. The guerillas led by Mordechaj Tenenbaum and Daniel Moszkowicz are armed with only one machine gun, rifles, several dozen pistols, Molotov cocktails and bottles filled with acid. The main resistance lasted just one day, but isolated pockets  resisted for several more days.

To another year of a game that started it all- Happy Nine Year Anniversary, BioShock! Original image credits go to @digitalfrontiers. Edited versions by me.

Once again, BFS will celebrate the game that introduced us to the true meaning of being mind-blown. Join us today as we revisit the moments that created long-lasting memories for us and a desire to keep up the ol’ zap ‘em, whack ‘em, the one-two punch. ;)

From now until 9:00pm PDT, this blog will post all day, every hour on the dot. Let us re-enjoy the game that made this whole franchise possible and hold the upmost gratitude for such an amazing game given to us by the now sadly defunct Irrational Games. To our beloved city, Rapture!

12 bandas sonoras que siguieron sonando

Compartimos un listado de films (producidos desde el 2000 en adelante) cuyas bandas sonoras son tan sólidas que pueden ser escuchadas y valoradas independientemente de la imagen.

ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE

Director: Jim Jarmusch / 2013

Amor e inmortalidad. Un film con una banda sonora muy particular, por momentos gótica, por momentos tenue y atmosférica. La música no solo acompaña y da profundidad a las escenas sino que también está incluída en la trama.

DRIVE

Director: Nicolas Winding Refn / 2011

100 minutos velocidades y violencia moderada. Un verdadero paisaje sonoro eléctrico y urbano.

INHERENT VICE

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson / 2014

DANCER IN THE DARK

Director: Lars von Trier / 2000

THE ASSASINATION OF JESSIE JAMES

Director: Andrew Dominik / 2007

THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS

Director: Wes Anderson / 2001

NORTHERN SOUL

Director: Elaine Constantine / 2014

THE GREAT GATSBY

Director: Baz Luhrmann / 2013

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Director: Michel Gondry / 2004

THE GET DOWN

Creadores: Baz Luhrmann & Stephen Adly Guirgis / 2016

The Get Down no es una película, pero su primer capítulo podría aplicar como tal. Además no podemos dejar pasar la movediza y energizante banda sonora que explora el Bronx de los años 70.
