River City Tokyo Rumble is exactly what you want it to be ⊟

Oh man, I’m so happy to be writing these impressions. So, when Natsume announced River City Tokyo Rumble, there was a lot of confusion, particularly on my part, about exactly which game it was. Arc System Works made so many Kunio games on 3DS, none of which got localized. My best interpretation was that Tokyo Rumble was an updated version of the first Renegade game, a pre-RCR Kunio brawler.

With that in mind, I tempered my expectations. Well, I was wrong about which Kunio game it was, and my expectations were blown out of the water. This is a real sequel to River City Ransom. It’s hard to imagine a better scenario.

Any idea of any of the characters fighting styles? I mean martial arts wise. For example Naoto, Makoto, Bullet, or Litchi. Mainly the bare handed/Gauntlet wielding characters. Or any other really. Unlike other fighting I haven't this kind of info in Blazblue.

Naoto uses a martial art taught to him by his mother. So I’m pretty sure it’s exclusive to the Kurogane’s, and isn’t taught by the Amanohokosaka’s. The name isn’t specified, but he isn’t self-taught - it’s a technique passed down in his family.

Bullet’s fighting style is something taught in her mercenary squad. By some extent, she and Tager have a similar fighting style but the latter’s style is modified by abilities that Kokonoe has given him.

Azrael is just him being wild and fighting as he likes. Not really a style there, but one of his Distortions looks like a technique? He gets all focused.

Makoto doesn’t have anything stated about her fighting style. Probably self-taught to some degree. Litchi is also on this boat.

Bang uses Shishigami style techniques, and I’d bet a lot of money that quite a few are self-invented. It’s also possible that Tenjou taught him some things, but that’s just speculation at this point.

Tao is also self-taught. She just fights as she pleases, but one of her Distortions is called “Cat Person’s Secret Art: Hexa-Edge” so she might’ve had some training from Jubei.

Ragna and Platinum were also mentored by Jubei. So their fighting styles were likely tutored by him.

Mai uses techniques that are from the Hazuki’s Kirihito branch family. So she’s very familiar with assassination techniques and how to fight.

Hibiki, being a Kohaku, was almost definitely taught the family trade, so that’s how he fights - using their assassination methods.

Kagura was a student of Tenjou, so was likely taught how to fight by him. Plus, he’s a member of the Mutsuki’s, so some techniques there.

Tsubaki and Jin were taught by their families, too. Jin was also mentored by Jubei on how to control Yukianesa.

Nine uses techniques she developed while at the Mages Guild. Celica uses her innate healing sorcery while Minerva does a lot of the work.

Those are all the hand-to-hand combatants and playable characters who are somewhat tutored in how to fight that I can think of.
