Today I received my first tā moko from Mark Kopua at his home in Te Turanganui-a-Kiwa. This is Araiteuru, one of my ancestral guardians. I got her on my right arm, which a security guard broke last year when I particpated in No Pride in Prisons’ direct action at Auckland Pride 2015. Araiteuru is powerful and a mother whose children have all passed away, so I hope she’ll adopt me and shelter me and protect me. Nobody is ever going to hurt me ever again.
