How high can you count on your fingers?

How high can you count on your fingers? It seems like a question with an obvious answer. After all, most of us have ten fingers, or to be more precise, eight fingers and two thumbs. This gives us a total of ten digits on our two hands, which we use to count to ten.

It’s no coincidence that the ten symbols we use in our modern numbering system are called digits as well. But that’s not the only way to count. In some places, it’s customary to go up to twelve on just one hand. How? Well, each finger is divided into three sections, and we have a natural pointer to indicate each one, the thumb. That gives us an easy to way to count to twelve on one hand.

And if we want to count higher, we can use the digits on our other hand to keep track of each time we get to twelve, up to five groups of twelve, or 60.

Better yet, let’s use the sections on the second hand to count twelve groups of twelve, up to 144.

That’s a pretty big improvement, but we can go higher by finding more countable parts on each hand. For example, each finger has three sections and three creases for a total of six things to count. Now we’re up to 24 on each hand.

And using our other hand to mark groups of 24 gets us all the way to 576. Can we go any higher? It looks like we’ve reached the limit of how many different finger parts we can count with any precision. So let’s think of something different.

One of our greatest mathematical inventions is the system of positional notation, where the placement of symbols allows for different magnitudes of value, as in the number 999. Even though the same symbol is used three times, each position indicates a different order of magnitude. So we can use positional value on our fingers to beat our previous record. Let’s forget about finger sections for a moment and look at the simplest case of having just two options per finger, up and down. This won’t allow us to represent powers of ten, but it’s perfect for the counting system that uses powers of two, otherwise known as ‘binary’.

In binary, each position has double the value of the previous one, so we can assign our fingers values of 1, 2, 4, 8…all the way up to 512. And any positive integer, up to a certain limit, can be expressed as a sum of these numbers. For example, the number seven is 4+2+1. So we can represent it by having just these three fingers raised. How high an we go now? That would be the number with all ten fingers raised, or 1,023. Is it possible to go even higher? It depends on how dexterous you feel! If you can bend each finger just halfway, that gives us three different states -down, half bent, and raised. Now, we can count using a base-three positional system, up to 59,048. And if you can bend your fingers into four different states or more, you can get even higher. That limit is up to you, and your own flexibility and ingenuity.

Even with our fingers in just two possible states, we’re already working pretty efficiently. In fact, our computers are based on the same principle. Each microchip consists of tiny electrical switches that can be either on or off, meaning that base-two is the default way they represent numbers. And just as we can use this system to count past 1,000 using only our fingers, computers can perform billions of operations just by counting off 1’s and 0’s.

So it took a while for this one but here is another Jenny’s Witchy How-To! Last time was Self Love Rose Soy Milk Tea, check it out HERE!

Based on the voting poll I did a while back on my Twitter, the top requested How-To was for a bath mix! <3

So because things have been crazy & stressful I want to remind everyone that it’s important to take a break from time to time and let go of the things that might be a little too heavy right now. Stop, breathe deep and take a moment to live in the moment & clear your mind! It’s ok to treat yourself, it’s ok to stop and relax!

Before you continue, please be aware of any allergies you might have! Always play it safe and read labels! This is just my personal blend but please feel free to substitute things to suit your needs! If you are unsure of something, a quick google search for alternatives should help! <3

Things You Will Need:

-Epsom Salt: Epsom Salt is great for relaxing muscles and soothing any tension you may be carrying. If you choose to use salt’s that are scented, be aware that the mingling smells combined with the oils and incense might effect the overall scent of your bath! Approx 1 cup

-Himalayan Salt: Salt in general is great for cleansing & purification, himalayan salt has the added bonus of self love & positivity! Just a small pile in about the palm of your hand should do.

-Lavender Essential Oil: Much like the rest of the ingredients, you don’t have to use this sent, I say lavender for a couple reasons: it’s a scent that is perfect for calm soothing relaxation, this oil is safe for skin contact, and it’s my preferred scent, hah! Please make sure whatever oil you use is safe for skin! Approx 5 drops.

-Dry Lavender: Now when I say dry lavender, I’m really saying any safe herb or flower you choose, hah! These can be dry or fresh! Again lavender is known for it’s relaxation benefits but feel free to look up herbs online or try some of these other relaxing herbs:
-chamomile -rosemary

-green tea -mint

-lemon balm -rose

-Small Bag/ Cheesecloth: So this part is optional for anyone who does not want the salts & flowers floating openly in the bath water. You are essentially going to be making a bath teabag using either a small loose fabric bag, cheese cloth or even a coffee filter will work! You are going to be putting everything but the oil in this and tying the top tightly closed so nothing spills out!

-Candles: If you have the counter space (that’s safe for it) I highly recommend candles! Putting out 3-4 small candles always helps me get into a more magical state of mind!

-Incense: If you like, try lighting your fave incense while you soak!

-Crystals: And heck yes you should put out some crystals to help raise your vibration to a positive level! You can have them set out nearby the tub OR if you know they will be ok in salt water you can add them into your bath with you! Remember to look up the properties of crystals before adding them into the water! I personally like to use tumbled amethyst, clear quartz and rose quartz stones which help with clarity of mind, positivity and self love!

-Drinking Water: Yes, drinking water! I always find myself getting dehydrated when I take these baths, not just because it’s hot & steamy but also because of the salts which can dehydrate you! I like to make an ice cold water with cucumber, blueberries and a little lemon!

And lastly, feel free to put your phone somewhere safe and play some meditation music!

Now that you have your items gathered up & you are ready to turn on the bath water take a moment to stop and breathe deeply. Imagine that all the thoughts, feelings and vibrations that are weighing you down or stressing you out are large stones in your arms. They are heavy but they are not serving your highest good. Remind yourself, “I no longer need these and they no longer weigh me down” and visualize yourself letting go of these stones. As you do this breathe deeply exhaling as you let go of the troubles from yesterday. Once you have let go of these troubles remind yourself “I allow myself to relax free of worry and free of fear”

<3 LET’S GET RELAXING! <3

Turn on your meditation music, light your candles and start your incense! Start filling your tub with hot/warm water, if you put your ingredients in a bag submerge and let the bag soak as the bath fills. If you choose to do the ingredients loose; as the bath fills add your salts and oils stirring them into the bath with your hand in a clockwise motion. Once the tub has filled add your crystals and herbs. Imagine that the crystals combined with the salts and herbs have made the water a bright glowing water of positivity and relaxation. As you step into these bright waters imagine it dissolving away any stress, worry, fear, anxiety, anything at all. Breathe deeply and say some positive affirmations! These can be anything from “I wash away the troubles of yesterday” to “I am at peace” or anything in particular that you feel is best for you! Once you have finished, make sure you compost all herbs and never let them go down the drain!

I hope you all enjoyed this relaxing bath & that you are all filled with positive energies as well as being in a calmer state of mind!

Much love <3

Hey folks, Paul here for MOTION MONDAY! I had fun making today’s GIFs… but this post might have killed my laptop. (Lots of quirks and crashes in the last 24 hours… always back up your work!)

Today’s focus is timing, specifically hang-time, and how it gives airborne objects a sense of gravity. I’m not gonna type much, so hopefully these GIFs speak for themselves. Enjoy!

With hang-time:

Without hang-time:

[Expressions: you know this is wrong, why are you doing this Paul]

Hang-time is the main focus here, but there are also other factors to consider…

  • Follow-through: notice in the top example, big baby Thundercluck has extra fluidity because his body changes direction first, then his wings and tail change direction afterwards. This can add a lot of life to characters with hair, tails, scarves, etc.

  • Squash-and-stretch: again in the top example, Thundercluck stretches when he’s moving fast, and squashes when he slows down (mostly when Brunhilde catches him). This is often used on bouncing ball animations, but it can add life to characters, too!

  • Arc motion: this isn’t showcased by either example because Thundercluck’s only moving vertically. If he were also moving side to side, though, it’d be crucial for his path to follow an arc. (Think upside-down “U,” not right-side-up “A.”)

These are among Disney’s “12 Basic Principles of Animation.” I’m planning to demonstrate another principle next week, likely one of the three “other factors” listed right above. If anyone has a request, let me know!

Thanks for watching, and be sure to check back… on the next exciting episode of Chicken Ball Z MOTION MONDAY!

Drabble idea: Angus grows up and has a child.

It’s a little girl, and this baby is the fucking apple of Taako’s eye.

He showers her with affection and gifts. He gives her ridiculous nicknames. He pontificates over her bright and glorious future and coos about how smart she will be and how many esteemed magic and science awards she will one day win. Every time Angus comes over to visit, Taako just stands by the door making huffy noises and doing a grabby hands motion until Angus sighs and hands her over. He sits her on his lap and makes magic sparkles appear in front of her and gives her tastes of frosting off of the cake they’re having and basically does everything a baby’s favorite person in the world SHOULD do.

So Taako is eternally salty that Kravitz is the baby’s favorite and pretty much has been from day one.

I CANNOT be the only one who is truly in love with Andrew Joseph Minyard’s canon height. Like it really does just make everything he does that much more impressive.
Here let me give you some examples:

•During one of the games, 6'5 starting backliner Matt Boyd hid behind 5 foot even Andrew Minyard when being chased by a character only referred to as Gorilla.

•Without even pulling out his knives, all Andrew had to do was stand between Matt and Kevin to get Matt to back off.

• 5ft BABY Andrew nearly kills 4 grown men when they attacked Nicky outside of the club??? Not just A man. FOUR. MEN.

• despite his height he still manages to take his short legs clear across the field at record breaking pace to break Riko’s arm before he can decapitate Neil. A+, Minyard.

•ALSO let’s just take into account that exy racquets are customized to the height and arm length of the holder SO while Andrews net is bigger the length of the stick is short MEANING when Andrew blocked The Impossible Goal™ in the bottom corner he had to be moving quicker than a fucking bat out of hell.

•despite being called a “midget with an attitude problem” no one fucks with Neil or his hubby bc they know better…

“When I leave you wanna keep *hand motions* doin dis. But den when I come around you don’t wanna POST UP.”

•Also Andrew is canonically 3 inches shorter than Neil so Neil actually has to bend down to kiss his boyfriend OR (bear with me) Andrew has to stand on his damn tip toes

I’m done with this
