As well as travelling, you do a lot of fashion photography. How do you plan and choose your locations before a shoot?
Well for most of the fashion shoots I’ve done I’ve had knowledge of the city or area I’m working in, so I have spots in the back of my mind, for instance a bridge or a car park which I think might work for the given shoot, we usually start from there. The fashion photos I’ve taken which I’m most proud of however, have pretty much all been spur of the moment decisions while travelling to or from a planned location.
Personally I don’t really see location as that vital however, as the focus is on the subject and the clothes, and as I’m always using primes lenses for fashion commissions then the background is usually very out of focus. For this reason, I’ve found that vibrant colours and prominent geometry within architecture make for the most interesting locations for fashion shoots.
