“The coffee here is really good, Izuku! C’mon, let’s go!” That’s how Ochako manages to drag him into the café, she just yells her praise for it before taking him by the arm and leading him to the entrance. The shop is trying a little too hard to be Starbucks in his humble opinion, and he doesn’t really like the music they’re playing at all, and he knows that Ochako wouldn’t be praising it if the shop was on the other side of their college campus, but he isn’t one to argue. Oh, and the barista with the half-red-half-white dyed hair is cute.
Todoroki isn’t going to lie to himself. More than half of the people who enter through the doorway of the little café he works at for spare change— he refuses to ask his father for anything—
are conventionally attractive. Izuku is cute, surely, but he leaves about as much of an impression on him as the girl with the pink skin and horns who came in an hour before. Until Izuku starts coming in more often, stuttering through his order every day while blushing and avoiding eye contact, his friend— she comes in every day and Todoroki should probably know her name by now, but he can’t be bothered— patiently waiting for the boy to finish with a smile on her face. Todoroki finds himself hoping that Izuku allows his friend to drag him into the shop for something other than free wifi. He memorizes Izuku’s name within the first three days and his order within the first week.
“Oh, you… you know my order?” Todoroki just nods. He doesn’t say a word. He just nods at Izuku, already preparing a cup for his frappuccino. He doesn’t dare mess things up with his own word vomit. He eventually finds it in himself to write down his number. It takes a three weeks for him to fight out his internal struggle of whether or not to do so, but he does it. Izuku starts texting him within an hour.
Neither of them text that much. Izuku stops by the shop every day and Todoroki slowly starts to be more vocal, asking him how his day went and such. They don’t share a major and Todoroki’s classes are on the other side of campus, so they never really run into each other outside of the
café, but Todoroki finds that Izuku starts to linger around the shop more often than previously to walk him back to the dormitories once his shift is over. It’s about as romantic as a ‘I suffer through this job because I need money but at least I got to meet you’ romance can be for stressed college students.
The most important thing about this AU is that Todoroki absolutely slips up and calls Izuku ‘pumpkin’ somehow when Izuku asks for a pumpkin spice latte when the seasons change. It’s more of a questioning “Pumpkin?” because Izuku changed his order, but the second it happens Ochako starts making a noise similar to a child’s squealing as she repeatedly slaps a blushing Izuku on the arm.
I was tagged by @mysunfreckle to post the first lines of my published fics and WIPs, up to 20.
I actually have twenty published fics if we go into my dark past… Before I discovered the Les Mis fandom, I wrote a LOT of Hetalia fic (and while that should stay in the past, I am proud of some of them). Also, anyone who likes how I write Montparnasse has my years of practice writing mafia!Romano from Hetalia to thank, so…
To save those of you who are just here for some Les Mis content the trouble, I’ll sort them by fandom and ship.
So brace yourself for some ships (and fandoms) that may change how you think of me forever (blame Freckle):
