Random thoughts for Valentine’s Day, 2004. Today is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap. I ditched work today. Took a train out to Montauk. I don’t know why. I’m not an impulsive person. I guess I just woke up in a funk this morning. I gotta get my car fixed. It’s goddamn freezing on this beach. Montauk in February. Brilliant, Joel. Pages ripped out. Don’t remember doing that. It appears this is my first entry in two years.

Can you get up right now? Endeavour to free-fall.

‘Cause you can fall if you want to, it’s just a matter of how far,
You’ve treasured your home town, but you’ve forgotten where you are.
And it will stay with you until you’re mind’s been found,
and it has been found wondering around.

With that skipping rope, the trampoline,
The crafty smoke that made us choke,
But we didn’t give up hope.
It’s the simple ways of getting paid,
The carelessness of running away,
I wish I stayed,
I wish I stayed,
I wish I stayed…

Clementine: I wish you’d stayed.
Joel: I wish I had stayed, I do.
