(once again, acornrising has a really nice “history of FR” thing on their blog. Take a read. So happy that resource exists.)
So through Flight Rising’s history, there have been events where glitches or exploits were found on-site, and some took advantage of such things. (Other issues came up in the forms of bots/programs as well, but these have for the most part been completely eliminated to my knowledge.)
The last big “roll-back” (and all that means is that the site ‘returns to an earlier save file’, aka, the site could revert itself to how it was a few hours ago or something) that occurred was for the Thundercrack Carnivale in 2013.
Going to quote from acornrising here:
“During the Thundercrack Carnival of 2013, the Admins became aware of a Treasure/Gem duplication exploit that some players had begun using. As a result, they shut down the site for maintenance, and ultimately opted to rollback the databases 8-14 hours in order to preserve the in-game economy. To make up for the players’ losses, a care package was sent out containing 5000 treasure, 35 Charged Sprockets, food, and a Gilded Chest (Note that this is cited one of the reasons that Lightning Sprites, though one of the earliest sprites released, is not nearly as expensive as the Light Sprite.), while the Carnival itself was extended for two days.”
Bolded/italics for my emphasis.
When a roll-back occurs, it does indeed remove any changes that occurred during that time-span. Hatched dragons, found items, sold dragons, sold items, made treasure/lost treasure– anything changed.
It is a site-wide event.
It has not occurred to my knowledge and frail memories since that one event in 2013.
What does that mean for this crazy imp-scroll/gen-1 imp/etc event today you ask?
It means that if the admins judge this to have been something that “escaped” the supposed involved accounts, if this is indeed a glitch/exploit/duplication thing AND NOT A PROGRAM (as of course, for a program, they need to figure out a way to defend against the program. They would just lock the site down and try to determine where the program was from/how it was working. If it is a hack/exploit, rolling back the site will let them go back and fix the issue before it happened kinda.)– they will try to revert the site to what it was before the issue occurred as to prevent gen 1 imperials/imp scrolls/potential KickStarter items from flooding into the public on-site.
Note, the program bit is my own conjecture. I’m assuming that if it is external, rolling back won’t help things. I could be wrong. Don’t quote me.
jessrising made a post on a supposed “timeframe” that if we get a roll-back, that the site will be rolled to. (I think they checked the time that the imp stuff was known to be showing up.)
ONCE AGAIN, ALSO, THERE IS NO CONFIRMATION THAT A ROLLBACK WILL OCCUR. THE MODS MAY SOLVE THESE ISSUES BY SIMPLY PUTTING THE SITE IN MAINTENANCE, OR CLEANING UP THE ISSUES OTHERWISE. IT IS JUST A POTENTIAL ISSUE, AS THOSE WHO SAW THE EXPLOIT PROBLEM AT THE THUNDERCRACK 2013 EVENT SAW THAT WAS HOW THINGS WERE DEALT WITH.
If you have questions, please do send an ask. Calm down, breathe. It won’t be a huge problem. If we do get a roll-back or down time, we may also get special items and compensation and stuff too! =D Can be positive in ways, don’t get too down! Just if you’re worried, write down major stuff you did today/stuff you bought so that you can easily do it again.
